      The Fullerton Public Library is a historic yet modern community beacon offering resources and services to our diverse and involved community. From books to digital materials, we offer something for everyone. We provide comfortable spaces for reading and studying, and helpful services such as reference assistance, making it a welcoming environment for learning and socializing. We actively promote community engagement and personal enrichment through events like author talks, workshops, cultural and educational programs, and more. The Fullerton Public Library plays a vital role in the city of Fullerton by supplying access to information, encouraging literacy and lifelong learning, and serving as a cultural and social hub for residents of all ages.


      Librarian
      $5,128 - $6,545 per mo.

      Future general salary increases include:
      4% Increase effective July 2025
      3% Increase effective July 2026


      The Position :
      Under general supervision performs a variety of professional library work; provides reference and reader advisory services; provides customer service at a reference desk, public counter, and in the stacks; assists the public in the use of library equipment, facilities, materials, and services and performs related work as required.

      The current vacancy is within the Children's Services Division. Assignments may change based on the needs of the department.




      Education and Experience:
      Any combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is considered qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications is:

      Bachelor’s degree in any major and a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an accredited college or university.
      AND
      One year of professional library experience.

      Special Requirements Include :
      • Ability to travel within the area to attend various job related, professional and organizational activities.
      • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings to accommodate City needs.
      • Must be able to pass a background check, to include fingerprinting. Librarians working with children, may require a more comprehensive background investigation.

      ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE
      Applicants must provide specific and complete details about their qualifications. Based on the information provided in the application and other required materials, the most qualified candidates will be invited to take part in the examination process, which may include a written exam, performance test, oral interview, and/or other assessment methods.

      The City reserves the right to revise any portion of the examination process. Candidates will be notified of any changes before the related examination step.

      Candidates who successfully complete the assessment process for this recruitment will be placed on an eligible list, which will remain in effect for at least one year or until an insufficient number of candidates remain on the list.

      Current City of Fullerton employees may be given preference during the testing and/or selection process.

      Additional Information:
      Employment offers are conditional upon the successful completion of a background check. The background check will include fingerprinting, verified by the State of California Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Certain positions may require a more extensive background check and/or a medical examination conducted by the City’s designated physician at the City’s expense. Medical examinations assess an individual’s ability to meet the physical requirements of the position. Additionally, all new hires and employees appointed to safety-sensitive classifications must undergo a drug screening.

      An appointee will serve a 12-month probationary period. Regular City employees promoted to this position will serve a 6-month probationary period.
