Lee County Library System is seeking enthusiastic, customer service-oriented candidates to join our team at three vibrant library locations: Cape Coral – Lee County Library, East County Regional Library, and Fort Myers Regional Library.

      Position Overview: As a Library Assistant, you’ll play a crucial role in performing circulation operations and delivering high-quality customer service.       About Our Libraries:
      1. Cape Coral – Lee County Library:
        • Established in 1962, this 40,000-square-foot facility in Cape Coral features meeting rooms, conference spaces, a butterfly garden, and numerous computers for patron use. Our staff assists a diverse demographic population, including the 200,000 residents of Cape Coral.
      2. East County Regional Library (Lehigh Acres):
        • Opened in 2001, this 31,000 square-foot library serves an unincorporated, fast-growing area of Lee County. Our patrons come from all walks of life. This library is located between Lehigh Senior High School and Varsity Lakes Middle School, making it particularly popular to the youth during school afternoons.
      3. Fort Myers Regional Library (Historic Downtown River District):
        • Located in the heart of Lee County’s cultural and economic activity, this library caters to a diverse community. From local and seasonal residents to students and downtown workers, our library is a hub of activity. It’s also the venue for the annual Southwest Florida Reading Festival.
      • Perform the computerized, manual, and clerical duties necessary to the operations of the library.
      • Provide excellent customer service at the circulation desk by issuing new library cards and checking in and out library materials.
      • Update the patron database.
      • Prepare circulation reports.
      • Assist the public in utilizing library services by locating library materials and answering routine questions.
      • Arrange books in their proper order on carts and alphabetize and numerically shelve materials in their proper locations.
      • Operate a variety of equipment such as computers, self-check machines, automation equipment, photocopiers, and cash registers.
      • Inspect condition of returned library materials.
      • Order and maintain supplies and brochures.
      • Collect fines and fees and prepare bank deposits.
      • Locate and process reserved items for pick up.

      Minimum Requirements:

      • Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED and one year of fast-paced, professional customer service or closely related experience.

      Preferred Qualifications:
      • Two years of education beyond high school is preferred.
      • Three or more years of customer service experience is strongly preferred.
      • Library experience is preferred.
      • Possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record is preferred.
      • Microsoft Office 365 or Similar Office Suite: Knowledge in using Microsoft Office 365 or a similar office suite for tasks such as document creation, spreadsheet management, and email communication is preferred.
      • Language Fluency: Additional proficiency in Spanish, ASL, or Haitian Creole is a plus.
      • Communication Skills: Exceptional communication abilities are preferred.
      • Customer Experience: The role involves delivering an exemplary customer experience.
      • Teamwork: Effective collaboration within a team is highly valued.
      • Diversity: The ability to relate positively to a diverse population, including children, teens, and speakers of languages other than English, is essential.
      • Flexibility: Employees may need to make temporary or long-term transfers to other library locations based on organizational needs.
      • Work Schedule: The role requires 80 hours bi-weekly, with varying hours and days, including evenings, Saturdays, and some Sundays.
      EMERGENCY RESPONSE/RECOVERY ACTIVITIES: All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an Emergency as needed. During an Emergency employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.
