Candidates must be available to work a 20-hr workweek with the schedule below:Monday: 3:00pm – 8:00pmWednesday: 3:00 – 8:00pmFriday: 12:00pm – 5:00pmSaturday: 12:00pm – 5:00pmSunday: 12:00pm – 5:00pmUnder general supervision, Library Page is primarily responsible for the shelving and processing of library materials; and provide general assistance. The current vacancy offers 20 hours per week.SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:Supervision is provided by the Library Manager or his/her designee.Essential job functions may include, but are not limited to, the following: (These functions may not be present in all positions in this classification. When a position is filled, the essential functions will be noted in the announcement of position availability. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind work assignments as needed.)Under supervision, a wide range of routine, technical and clerical duties may include but are not limited to the following: lifting, moving, sorting and re-shelving of library materials; shelf reading for accuracy of order; newspaper processing; checking in library materials used in house; basic processing of library materials; assist in preparation of displays; assist in securing library at closing time and other duties as required by the supervisor.The library is open and staffed Monday through Sunday. This position requires the ability to work a variety of hours, depending on assignment, including nights, weekends and holidays; involves participation in activities that require the ability to perform periodic strenuous labor/activity.To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities, and enable the individual to successfully perform the essential job functions of the position. A typical combination is:Education and/or Experience:Previous library experience is desired, but not required. Education at a level to ensure the ability to read and write at a level necessary for adequate job performance.Knowledge of:The English alphabet; basic mathematical principles; basic filing procedures; and use of word processing systems; Dewey Decimal Classification System is desired, but not required.Ability to:Quickly and accurately sort and file items in alphabetical and numerical order; perform courteously and effectively with staff and patrons at a busy public library facility; follow oral and written instructions; perform detailed work, accurately, under pressure; and operate a computer or typewriter.Minimum age of 16 at time of appointment with a valid work permit.SELECTION PROCESS:
Applicants must complete an application online prior to the final filing date. Applications will be screened for qualifications, appropriate background, and only the most qualified will be invited to participate in the examination process. Successful candidates must achieve a minimum passing score in each of the test components. Applicants will be notified by e-mail as to the test date, time, and location. The examination process will include an oral interview weighted at 100%.Candidates will be required to pass a City administered pre-employment physical and may be required to pass a thorough background investigation and polygraph examination as part of the selection process. Candidates who do not pass will be disqualified and removed from the eligibility list.
