      Job Summary

      This posting is for the purpose of obtaining a pool of qualified candidates for the Library Page position at various branches. This is not a seasonal position. Although the anticipated hours of work are between 10-24 hours per week, we are looking for candidates who can work upwards of 16-24 hours per week.

      Duties and Responsibilities

      • Reporting to the Branch Manager, shelves library materials.
      • Performs materials handling routines such as retrieving materials, packing and unpacking boxes, sorting onto trucks, arranging shelves and emptying the drop box.
      • May perform check-in routines. May be asked to perform check-out routines on an emergency basis.
      • May assist with preparation of program materials and minor artwork.
      • Tidies branch/department and may assist with closing or opening procedures.
      • Answers directional questions or redirects customers appropriately.
      • Other duties as assigned.

      Please note: This is a bargaining unit position. CUPE Local 1989 members will be given consideration for this vacancy, as per the collective agreement, followed by all other employees.

      Skills and Qualifications

      • Effective interpersonal skills are essential in dealing with staff.
      • Effective oral and written skills in English are essential.
      • Lifting is required.
      • Minimum age is 14 years.
      • May require earlier or later shifts than normal.
      • A Level 3 - Vulnerable Sector Check will be required of the successful candidate, as a condition of employment, at their own expense, to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted.
      • SUNDAY WORK MAY BE REQUIRED
