      Technology Aspect

      Position Overview

      The Educational Diagnostician will play a crucial role in assessing students' learning needs, developing strategies to address individualized educational goals, and collaborating with our virtual teaching staff to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment. This position is primarily responsible for the coordination, planning, and preparation of compliance documents for students eligible for Special Education services and for participating in or chairing/co-chairing ARD meetings (virtually).

      Essential Position Functions

      • Receives student referrals and implements the assessment and evaluation process timely.
      • Using federal and Texas Education Agency (TEA) regulations select and administer formal and informal assessments to determine student eligibility for special education services;
      • Works with TXVS academic staff to collect and organize student assessment data, and continually evaluates the assessment program, making changes based on findings;
      • Conducts classroom observations and student interviews;
      • Coordinates and participates in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement for students, and develop Individual Education Plans (IEP) according to district procedures;
      • Assists classroom teachers with the implementation of student IEPs;
      • Partners with parents concerning the educational needs of students/share assessment data;
      • Partners with the academic team to enhance work with students;
      • Develops and maintains effective relationships with students and parents;
      • Assists in the selection of assessment materials and equipment;
      • Provides staff development training in assigned schools to assist the academic team in the identification and understanding of students with disabilities;
      • Maintains current referral lists, and referrals for related services evaluation; maintains communication among assessment, service providers, and related services personnel.
      • Maintains documentation for any significant problems with ARD Committee procedures; attends Special Education Department staff meetings; attends relevant professional development.
      • Receives student referrals and implements the assessment and evaluation process (by state).
      • Facilitates meetings related to special education and referrals including transfer and transition.
      • Coordinates outside agencies with the needs of the student and in alignment with the Individual Education Plan (IEP), this includes scheduling evaluations and transition services.
      • Completes applicable ARD IEP relevant sections and supplements with accompanying data collected by campus staff (i.e., ESY regression data, all IEPs, Autism Supplement, etc.).
      • Assists with the completion lists, forms, reports, PEIMS forms, and data required by the Special Education Office within the set timeline.
      • Sends all relevant IEP paperwork to the parent after the ARD meeting as relevant.
      • Maintains updated student audit files and any related documentation to support students' needs to comply with state requirements.


      Knowledge, Skills & Attributes

      • Knowledge of procedures for assessing achievement and intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functions for education purposes, including cross-battery evaluation practices
      • Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies, including behavior management interventions
      • Knowledge of psycho-social development
      • Strong consultation skills for conferencing with teachers, parents, and students
      • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
      • Ability to manage multiple requests, deadlines, and priorities


      Education & Certification Requirements

      • Master's degree in Special Education or Education from an accredited college or university
      • Texas Educational Diagnostician Certificate required.
      • Texas Educator Certificate in Special Education required.
      • At least 1 year of experience as a campus Educational Diagnostician is preferred, with specific experience with Special Education populations.
