      Job Title: Machine Learning Engineer


      Reports to: Director, Data Products and Services


      Purpose of the Role:

      At LifeLabs, we have a vision to enable better healthcare through providing consumers with actionable insights that lead to better sustainable outcomes. To realize our ambitious vision, we are investing in the development of data products and services to meet client needs such as insight extraction, predictive modelling and machine learning capabilities.

      You will perform statistical analysis to understand our patient population and conditions which will be important to delivering the insights to our healthcare stakeholders. Deep understanding of the consumer journey and LifeLabs data assets will be key to unlocking the insights to better our solutions portfolio. You will spearhead feature engineering to build the foundation for predictive ML algorithms in our Azure environment. Experience in working with complex temporal patterns including events that occur at non-uniform intervals will be a strong asset.


      Core Accountabilities:

      Data Analysis and Engineering:

      • Exploratory Analysis: Explore and analyze complex datasets using statistical and machine learning techniques to uncover patterns, trends, and insights using Python, Scala, or SQL.
      • Feature Engineering: Identify relevant features and develop strategies for feature extraction and selection to improve model performance and efficiency.
      • Build net new data assets to support feature engineering processes.
      • Data Processing: Pre-process, clean, and analyze large volumes of structured and unstructured data to extract meaningful insights and features for model training. Design and Implement data pipelines with the Cloud Engineer to streamline ETL jobs and create net new data assets which are key foundations to analysis and predictive modelling


      Model Development:

      • Develop predictive models, classification algorithms, and recommendation systems to solve business problems and drive decision-making.
      • Implement scalable and efficient machine learning pipelines using tools and frameworks.
      • Deployment: Deploy machine learning models into production environments and integrate them into existing systems and applications.
      • Monitoring and Maintenance: Monitor model performance and evaluate model accuracy, reliability, and scalability over time, and make necessary adjustments to improve performance.


      Communication and Visualization:

      • Build interactive data visualizations and presentations to communicate insights and findings to stakeholders using tools such as Power BI.


      Research and Innovation:

      • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in machine learning, deep learning, and related fields, and actively contribute to research initiatives and innovation projects within the company.

      Minimum Hiring Requirements:

      • Minimum 4 years of experience in a comparable role
      • Master’s degree in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field required, PhD an asset.
      • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, SQL with experience in building and deploying machine learning models.
      • Experience with data manipulation and analysis libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Scikit-learn
      • Experience working on Azure, UNIX, and hybrid environments.
      • Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or Kafka is a plus.
      • Experience with software development best practices, version control systems (e.g., Git), and agile methodologies is a plus.
      • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
      • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

      This is a hybrid role.

      Hiring Range: 92,600 - 118,000

      The hiring range has been established, however, the final salary recommendation will be determined based off the level of experience, education requirement, external market conditions and internal equity.

      In this position, you will be eligible for Lifelabs annual bonus.
