      Job summary

      The Breast Imaging department is looking for a motivated and compassionate individual to join our friendly team at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in mammography and is a qualified mammography associate practitioner or assistant practitioner in mammography, and hold a full UK driving licence.

      This post will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to work in the field of Mammography and be a member of the multidisciplinary team based at University Hospiatlas Coventry and Warwickshire undertaking mammography examintions as part of the NHS Breast Screening Programme.

      The role is varied and excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary. Duties will be undertaken at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire and a variety of mobile screening locations across Warwickshire, Solihull and Coventry.

      A training post will be condsidered and the successful candidate will be provided with specialist mammography training to achieve the Mammography Associate Apprenticeship award through an approved provider.

      Main duties of the job

      • To carry out routine mammography examinations within the breast imaging team as part of the NHS Breast screening programme and support symptomatic clinics.
      • To adhere to departmental regulations with regard to IR(ME)R 2017 procedures and local rules of practice.
      • To undertake regular quality control tests on the Xray equipment and ensure that the results are accurately recorded.
      • To take part in regular image analysis and mammography audit.
      • To take part in regular local and national client satisfaction surveys for screening clinics.
      • To undertake training to perform mammography on hospital and mobile screening sites working to achieve the required competence in mammgraphy under the supervision of a senior radiographer.
      • To undertake the courier role to all mobile units which includes delivering and returning supplies.

      Job description

      Job responsibilities

      Provision of Mammography

      • To carry out routine mammography examinations within the breast imaging team as part of the NHS Breast screening programme and support symptomatic clinics.
      • To adhere to departmental regulations with regard to IR(ME)R 2017 procedures and local rules of practice.
      • To perform regular quality control tests on the X-ray equipment (mobile and static) and ensure that the results are accurately recorded.
      • To report to the Senior Radiographer or Quality Assurance Radiographer immediately of any results that are outside agreed parameters.
      • To check and document identity and demographic details of clients according to departmental practice.
      • To note any reported breast problems and observe and note any significant clinical signs and symptoms and refer to a senior radiographer when necessary.
      • To ensure clients receive a comprehensive explanation about the mammogram and expected time for receiving their results.
      • To perform accurate standard 2-view mammography examinations in a caring and sensitive manner.
      • To be able to position women and adapt technique for mammography with varying body shapes and disabilities.
      • To work within the designated Scope of Practice for a Mammography Associate / Assistant Practitioner
      • Ability to demonstrate compliance with the departmental work instructions.
      • To take part in regular image analysis and mammography audit sessions to maintain a technical repeat rate in line with NHSBSP standards.
      • To take part in regular local and national client satisfaction surveys for screening clinics.
      • To undertake training to perform mammography on hospital and mobile sites.
      • To undertake training to carry out mammography examinations that are adequate for radiological interpretation that conforms to NHSBSP standards.
      • Duties when working on a Mobile Unit / Communication
      • To greet patients, clients and visitors with respect, and in a manner that promotes their sense of dignity at all times.
      • To escalate situations where clients/patients are unhappy with the service that is being provided.
      • To respond to questions or concerns from patients clients or visitors, in a clear concise manner that promotes confidence, referring to senior staff when necessary.
      • To maintain cleanliness of the screening environment which includes keeping the rooms clean and tidy in accordance with the departments health, safety and infection control procedures.
      • To ensure that the mobile unit is maintained as a suitable environment for staff and clients by checking for and reporting any external damage prior to use.
      • To report any faults or any disrepair to senior staff.
      • To Undertake cleaning of equipment and interior of mobiles including floors, walls and sink
