- Partner closely with senior leadership to define and monitor key performance measures for schools, regions and the entire organization.
- Collect, organize, validate and analyze data. Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders through slide decks, visualizations, live presentations, etc.
- Conduct interviews and lead focus groups across the organization.
- Implement best practices to establish statistical integrity and accuracy within the organization
- Serve as a lead/expert resource within the organization, especially on qualitative research topics.u00A0
- Move beyond considering analyses in isolation to more broadly leveraging how different strands of work and research fit together to drive organizational decisions.
- Be a key contributor within the larger data andu00A0 technology team in developing solutions that communicate and drive action based on the insights from our data.
- Lead survey design, administration, data analysis and stakeholder engagement for our student, teammate and family surveys, currently involving 2,400 employees, 15,000 students and 30,000 family members. Champion best practices in survey design and administration across Aspire.u00A0
- Collaborate with other data and technology team members to integrate learnings from our data collection and analysis into our analytics work and data products design.
- Lead cross-functional projects with independence and autonomy .
- Lead data analysis and synthesis work to support data conversations at the school, regional and org-wide levels, sharing insights which inform future strategy and programs.
- Partner with regions and schools to increase data literacy within the organization.
- Respond to and support ad-hoc learning and evaluation initiatives and data requests.
- Manage internal and external stakeholder relationships. Build and maintain effective cross-functional working relationships and collaborations with Aspire leadership and teams.
- Influence organizational decisions and direction using internal and external data.
- Support the Sr Director in setting and implementing the learning and evaluation agenda.
- Supervise analyst(s) or others on the team when necessary.
- Demonstrate knowledge of, and support, the Aspire Public Schools mission, vision, value statements including antiracism, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.u00A0
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned, including occasional travel to Aspire locations, conferences, and other work-related events.
- Experience or strong interest in K-12 public education, and an understanding of how data is and can be used to drive change from leadership all the way to the classroom
- Possess a strong proficiency in statistics, research, program evaluation; have a working knowledge of the full data pipeline, e.g. gathering data, ETL, automation, engineering, databases and storage, reshaping/ cleaning/ calculations, analysis, visualization
- Experience using SQL and statistical software (e.g. STATA, R, Python) to analyze data.
- Demonstrated ability to manipulate large quantities of data, identify anomalies, and understand the implications
- Demonstrated ability to communicate information using data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau)u00A0
- Demonstrated ability to learn new tools, systems, and processes quickly
- Ability to translate data needs or requests into useful deliverables
- Excellent organization, time management and follow-up skills, managing multiple deliverables concurrently and independently
- Love for problem solving and the ability to perform analytical tasks with limited supervision
- Excellent interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills with proven track record of building positive relationships and effectively communicating with colleagues
- Familiarity and agility with research design applied in an education setting
- Abilityu00A0 to function as an individual contributor, and when necessary, supervise analyst(s) in carrying out tasks and responsibilities.u00A0
- Adept at navigating ambiguity, managing relationships with multiple leaders, advocating for and driving forward standardized practices and solutions across a large organization.u00A0u00A0u00A0
- Bacheloru2019s degree; Masteru2019s in social science or other fields requiring advanced qualitative and quantitative research expertise a plus.
- At least 4 years working in a data analysis, program evaluation or similar role, preferably in K-12.u00A0
- Experience conducting qualitative research, including focus groups, interviews, case studies, ethnographic research, grounded research, etc.
- Experience designing large-scale surveys, performing analysis and communicating results.
- Experience managing stakeholder perspectives on research design and project outcomes
- Experience facilitating data driven conversations with leaders and making recommendations based on insights and learning from the data
- Several years of relevant work experience reflecting increasing responsibilities
- Experience with SQL, Python, R, or other analytical tools
- Experience with Tableau or similar data visualization products

JOB SUMMARY
The Manager, Data for Evaluation, Learning & Strategy (MDELS) will report to the Sr Director, Data & Systems. This role will be tasked with leading work which focuses on evaluating how Aspire is doing, and zeroing in on what we can learn from our data to inform how Aspire's leadership sets strategy. This role will also be in a position to use data to influence org-wide initiatives/goals and be part of establishing and supporting data-driven practices across Aspire. The MDELS will lead workstreams to measure and monitor progress towards our stated instructional and operational goals. This will include, but not be limited to goals around school performance, student and staff well-being, family engagement, equity, and general organizational health. On an as-needed basis, the role will support cycles of inquiry with school, regional and org-wide stakeholder teams.
The MDELS will ensure that teachers, principals, our home and regional offices, and senior leaders have actionable, accurate, and accessible tools with which they can answer important questions and forecast needs. In addition, the manager will lead and/or support internal and external-facing research initiatives when they arise, helping inform, guide and influence Aspireu2019s strategic operational and academic program decisions.u00A0 The MDELS will work closely with the broader data and technology team to enhance internal systems and processes for data gathering, analysis, communication of insights and findings, and progress monitoring against organizational goals.
This position will be based out of the Aspire Home Office, Oakland, CA.
