      Responsible for the timely delivery of high-quality components, ensuring on time, cost effective delivery to an order-based production plan.

      Key Responsibilities:

      • Safety First:
        • Maintain the safety of all systems and processes in the Isando Foundry and implement world class safety practices as guided by the Health and Safety department and senior management
        • Ensure that the Foundry complies to the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85: 1993)

      • Leadership:
        • Ensure effective leadership across multi-shift teams, maintaining a focus on internal customer delivery
        • Manage the technical development of the Foundry including yield improvements, new parts and material industrialisation
        • Achieves financial objectives by forecasting needs, preparing a budget, and managing expenditures.
        • Guides problem solving activities, applying, and coaching principles to others; models and trains principles of continuous improvement.

      • Production:
        • Ensure continuous improvement of the manufacturing processes in order to reduce waste and increase productivity
        • Implement and improve on world class error proofing and quality control systems to prevent defects from reaching the customer
        • Maintain the Foundry expense budget, including manning calculations, shift control, over-time control and raw material costs
        • Maintain and improve the Foundry throughput through machine utilisation management, production routing and Bill of material control, management of down time, implementation of quick changeover processes etc.
        • Work with the planning department to effectively schedule and manage the capacity of the Foundry
        • Maintain the integrity of the ISO 9001: 2008 quality assurance system within the Foundry, including product traceability
        • Implement and maintain Make to Stock (MTS) and Make to Order (MTO) pull systems

      • Technical:
        • Digitize and covert manual processes
        • Ensure continuous process optimization and improvements
        • Project manage new part / process introductions and industrialisation process
        • Estimate method and process steps to determine product costs
        • More efficient gating system, to improve yield and save costs
        • Yield savings, continuous cost saving and efficiency improvement

      Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

      • Relevant Technical Qualification
      • Certified qualification in Metallurgy, Pattern Making etc. applicable to the Foundry Industry
      • 5 – 8 years’ experience in the Management of a Foundry sand casting process involving more than 25 Employees
      • 5 – 8 years’ experience with patternmaking, methoding, physical metallurgy and or heat treatment of ferrous alloys.
      • 4 years’ experience with actively managing a continuous improvement programme
      • Manufacturing, TQM, Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing
      • 2 Years’ experience as a Legally Appointed Section 16.2
