Each investment structure is tailored to the situation and BSC’s strategic objectives.

This person will be highly visible with external partners and work closely with a broad network of people within BSC including senior management, Business Development, Legal, Accounting, and other functions.

      Your responsibilities will include:

      Portfolio analytics:

      • Leading a quarterly process to review investment activity, deal pipeline, accounting implications, and financial performance metrics.
      • Assessing portfolio company financial performance and projections against BSC expectations.
      • Leading the design and execution of other analytics that identify trends and provide actionable guidance on investment terms and tactics, or portfolio company governance and compensation practices that drive success.

      Investment:

      • Collaborating with business development teams in BSC operating units and with senior members of the Venture team to evaluate new investment opportunities.
      • Working with relevant internal functions, including legal, commercial, and finance, as needed to complete diligence and presenting diligence findings and recommendations to senior management.
      • Developing and delivering presentations for division and corporate leadership to justify moving forward with new and follow-on investment opportunities. Formulating and challenging current views on markets, sectors and technologies of portfolio companies through ongoing research and Board observation.
      • Managing BSC portfolio investments, including through board observer seats, assessing progress against programmatic and financial benchmarks.
      • Sourcing and evaluating new investments, including meeting with founders and potential co-investors.

In all actions, demonstrate a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance to the Quality Policy and all other documented quality processes and procedures.

      Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have experience in healthcare VC investing and will be well versed in the healthcare start-up environment. The ideal background will include 5+ years of relevant experience in the medtech industry, venture investing, finance, business development, investment banking, or healthcare consulting.

This person will have experience in the fundamentals of investment management including targeting, conducting diligence and building business cases for investment. The successful candidate will bring prior experience in interfacing with entrepreneurs, investors, lawyers, bankers and consultants. Ideally, he/she will have managed investments for multiple years, assumed prior Board of Director roles in portfolio companies, and be networked with exposure to the multitude of private investment opportunities available for the targeted start-up medical technology entities.

In addition, the following personal qualities and characteristics will be important:

      • Verbal, written communication and presentation skills, coupled with the presence and self-confidence to interface with the key constituents including BSC senior management, portfolio company management teams, and coinvestors.
      • An organized and motivated self-starter with the capacity to work individually and as part of a team effort. Additionally, he/she will be able to work with flexibility, efficiency, enthusiasm and diplomacy and have demonstrated the ability to develop less senior investment team members, lead by example and influence to encourage collaboration across functions, levels, and groups to achieve shared objectives.
      • Personality, mindset (flexible thinker, adaptable to new ideas, focused and persistent) and an investment approach that fits well with entrepreneur/founder-driven start-up companies.
      • A strong business orientation combined with unquestionable integrity, dependability, ethics and financial skills. This person must have a penchant for delivering the highest quality output with a strong sense of urgency and results orientation to a variety of constituencies including shareholders, strategic partners, and Company management and employees.
      • Strong problem-solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
      • Curiosity, discipline, humility, and irreproachable integrity.
