Job Description
The Managing Director of Development & Community Partnerships will lead the fundraising efforts in Houston to ensure KIPP Texas’ fiscal health, lead statewide fundraising projects, and the strategy of Community Partnerships. As leader of the Development team, s/he is responsible for leading the creation and implementation of an innovative fundraising plan for Houston, coaching and managing the Directors of Development, and creating the vision for the team. The Managing Director of Development
& Community Partnerships will lead statewide projects, such as organizing development materials for the KIPP Texas and Regional Board meetings, Committee meetings, and other collateral as needed by the Deputy Chief of Advancement and Chief Advancement Officer. The Managing Director of Development & Community Partnerships will work closely with the Deputy Chief of Advancement, Directors of Development, and the Director of Community Partnerships to successfully meet the fundraising goals and meet KIPP Texas’ objectives.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
The Managing Director of Development and Community Partnerships will:
1. Lead the creation, vision, and direction-setting of KIPP Texas - Houston’s strategic fundraising plan to meet the fundraising goals annually and for the Multi-Year Plan
a. Support the Directors of Development in creating a diversified funding base to sustain
KIPP Texas’ financial needs and cultivate critical relationships with donors
b. Support the Directors of Development in the management of the Senior Development
Manager in Houston and leading the vision and strategy for each city
c. Lead the strategy and direction-setting to meet the annual fundraising goals, and event
fundraising goal for Houston
d. Meet regularly with KIPP Texas staff to stay informed about the financial needs and
partnership strategies for supporters
e. Work with the Deputy Chief of Advancement, Chief of Advancement, and Houston
Regional Board Members to develop strategies to initiate and meet fundraising goals2. Manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects
a. Lead the cultivation and stewardship of a portfolio of max of 60 donors
b. Capture, document, and track all actions and next steps in the donor database
c. Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward new and lapsed Houston donors for general
operating, capital gifts, and the annual fundraising event3. Promote KIPP Texas-Houston and KIPP Texas as a whole through in-person, phone, and email conversations and seek out potential corporate, foundation, and individual donors
a. Serve as representative of KIPP Texas to external Houston funding community
b. Participate as an active member of the Development Leadership Team and lend your
knowledge and skills to enhance the overall strategy and effectiveness of KIPP Texas’
fundraising efforts4. Work closely with the Houston fundraising team and Community Partnerships team to prepare materials for Board Members, Board Meetings, donor meetings, internal executive meetings, and/or Community Partner meetings
a. Provide direct support to the Deputy Chief of Advancement, Chief Executive Officer, and
Chief Advancement Officer with Development strategy for Boards and statewide major
donors
b. Prepare the Deputy Chief of Advancement, Chief Executive Officer, and Chief
Advancement Officer for executive briefings
c. Work with the Deputy Chief of Advancement to prepare and finalize presentation
materials for KTX Board of Directors Meetings, Regional Board Meetings, donor
meetings, Community Partner meetings
d. Maintain fundraising progress tracker up to date for Board Materials5. Provide support to the Director of Community Partnerships to execute the strategy and vision for Community Partnerships
a. Work with Deputy Chief of Advancement to create and execute on the long and short-
term strategy for Community Partnerships
b. Work with team to execute against strategy and meet annual goals
c. Engage members of the various KIPP Texas departments to gather the appropriate
information to ensure all key stakeholders are aware of the progress to goals and
impact to our students and staff
d. Support strategy and execution of creating systems for partner scalability: identify the
technology capable to centralize an inventory of non academic partnerships
e. Help expand and increase awareness of partner opportunities across KTX
f. Help expand KIPP Texas Cares program to position how KTX brings resources to families and surrounding communities.6. Build and maintain internal KIPP relationships with schools, Inc. staff, and other s externally-facing functions
a. Develop an understanding of each KIPP school’s culture and personality to connect donors’ interest and community partnerships to specific school initiatives and school programs
b. Meet regularly with school leaders and stay informed about the financial and community needs of each KIPP Texas school to guide the direction of fundraising and partnerships
c. Balance the needs of general operating support, capital campaign funding, and above-and-beyond projects to assist KIPP schools in their specific efforts
7. Coach and manage the Directors of Development in Houston and Director of Community Partnerships, including conduct reviews, foster individual and team growth, and provide opportunities for professional development8. Perform other duties as assigned by the Deputy Chief of Advancement, Chief of Advancement, or CEO.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Education and Knowledge:
● Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
● A proven track record of closing gifts of $100,000+
● 5+ years of securing major gifts, leading a team, and delivering results
● Experience with a variety of fundraising methods and techniques including direct mail
campaigns, capital campaigns, and grant writing is preferable, but not required
● Experience in the public education sector
● Experience with prospective donor research
● Knowledge of charter schools and the local philanthropic communitySkills:
● Strong record of engaging board members, and direct solicitation of major donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations
● Experience working with non-profit or education organizations in a fiscal capacity
● Comprehensive experience tracking development in relation to income projections and
departmental budgets
● Comprehensive experience in collaborating with a finance team to ensure long-term
sustainability
● Ability to work both on broad-based strategy and everyday details
● Ability to exercise excellent judgment in decision-making
● Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to KIPP Texas
● Proven written and verbal communication skills with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district
● Strong organizational and planning skills
● Possession of a passionate and loving attitude toward all children
● Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated and have the ability to act in a manner that will reflect positively on the organization
● Personnel management experience
● Evening and weekend hours required at certain times of the year
● Proficiency in MS Office Suite, MailChimp, Raiser’s Edge, and social media
● Model positive and healthy character traits and habits, such as being organized, consistent, and understanding

● The scheduled hours for the position may include after 5pm hours, attending evening events.Work Environment
● This is an SSP role that will provide strong oversight to the Houston fundraising teams and Community Partnerships teams
● Time will be spent in a typical office environment as well as on the field in donor or partner meetings with frequent interruptions and interaction with school leadership, staff, and T2.Travel Requirements

Salary is based on years of experience, degree of education, and level of expertise.
