      Job Title: Locksmith

      Job Description

We are seeking a true expert in locksmithing, not just someone mechanically inclined and good with tools. This role requires the ability to create keys from scratch to match specific locks, a skill far beyond simply duplicating existing keys at a hardware store. The successful candidate will work closely with the current Locksmith Manager, who is preparing for retirement and aims to train his successor. The university's access system is evenly split between mechanical and electric key access. Mechanical access uses traditional metal keys and locks, while electrical access employs keypads with number combo entries or key fobs. The locksmith will need to diagnose and resolve various issues with doors and locks, whether mechanical or electrical, and must confidently work independently on different projects.

      Responsibilities

      • Create keys from scratch to match specific locks.
      • Collaborate with the Locksmith Manager to take over the department.
      • Diagnose and resolve issues with both mechanical and electric door locks.
      • Repair or replace locking mechanisms as necessary.
      • Work independently on various projects across the campus.
      • Understand and manage work orders through a virtual system.

      Essential Skills

      • Registered in the State of Connecticut as a Locksmith with a valid certificate.
      • 10+ years of experience creating keys, installing locks, and fixing locks.
      • Proficiency with hand and power tools.
      • Familiarity with managing work orders through a virtual system.

      Additional Skills & Qualifications

      • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
      • Professional demeanor with excellent communication skills.
      • Computer skills for managing work orders.
