      Collins Aerospace is looking for a Materials & Process Engineer (M&P) who will be responsible for managing and monitoring the manufacturing processes of Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) materials for aerospace applications. You will assure compliance with customer requirements (Performance and strength), qualifying new technology, and providing hands-on leadership in the identification and resolution of process issues that impact the product. You will also need to resolve complex technical problems, manage technical projects, and propose improvement opportunities involving new technologies or methods.

      • Position is working onsite at our Santa Fe Springs CA facility

      Primary Responsibilities

      • Function as technical lead for CMC composites, serving as the technical point of contact for any questions within the Santa Fe Springs site and among other wheel & brake or customer sites
      • Monitor production process and troubleshoot any day-to-day problems with CMC programs as they may arise
      • Manage moderately complex, long-term projects involving multi-site and interdepartmental coordination
      • Mine, analyze, interpret, and report data or experimental results in a clear and concise manner to senior level leadership
      • Manage qualification efforts and transition-to-production process for new CMC products or recipe changes
      • Propose and evaluate new technologies or processes that offer potential benefit in cost, performance, or quality
      • Lead root cause failure investigations and drive them toward resolution
      • Formalize recipe and requirements for production of Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMC) using Chemical Vapor Infiltration (CVI) process
      • Create and maintain Engineering specifications and drawings for production use.
      • Coordinate destructive and non-destructive characterization of material/component properties to gain a better understanding of achieving design objectives
      • Ensure Process Safety Management (PSM) compliance is maintained for covered processes
      • Coordinate with external OEM on project and product status on a regular basis
      • Able to travel domestically as circumstances permit
      • Perform other duties as required

      Qualifications/Experiences Needed

      • Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field
      • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required

      • Experience working in a manufacturing facility

      Qualifications/Experience Preferred

      • Experience with program or process management
      • Experience in the aerospace industry
      • Experience working with composite materials and characterization methods
      • Knowledge of statistical process control concepts
      • Experience with Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) process

      The salary range for this role is 70,000 USD - 142,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
