- Performs maintenance on pumps (centrifugal and positive displacement), steam turbines, compressors (centrifugal and positive displacement), gearboxes (parallel shaft and right angle drive), hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, process loading arms, fans and blowers and drive systems associated with the equipment.
- Proficient in the use of micrometers, dial indicators, laser alignment and various tools used to install and measure the equipment.
- Familiar with the basic shop tools such as drill presses, bench grinders, hydraulic presses and hand tools used to work on equipment.
- Assumes responsibility for changing bearings in some electrical motors.
- Ensures that all personnel and equipment are working in a safe manner by following guidelines and procedures.
- Installs, inspects, and maintains rotating equipment within the refinery.
- Inspects and performs maintenance on pumps.
- Adjusts and aligns machinery and equipment.
- Uses hand and power tools to complete assigned work tasks. Is able to set-up, prepare, and inspect the work site.
- Demonstrates knowledge of basic physical and mechanical principles and craft math.
- Understands bearings, seals, compressors, pumps and cylinders, valve and pipe configurations, shaft packing, and drive systems.
- Understands characteristics of metals and is knowledgeable about the various types and applications of lubricants.
- Follows guidelines and procedures to ensure that rotating equipment is working in a safe and reliable manner.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- A minimum of two (2) years Rotating Equipment or related experience, which could include experience as a machinist, millwright, or pump mechanic OR a degree in one of these fields required.
- Valid Driver’s license required.
- Ability to operate equipment such as small lathes, drill press and balancing machines preferred.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, equipment data books and maintenance manuals required.
- Knowledge of how to measure using precision instruments such as inside/outside micrometers, Vernier calipers and dial indicators preferred.
- Ability to work call-outs and unscheduled overtime which includes nights, weekends and holidays required.
- Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero St. Charles Refinery, required.
This position is hourly nonexempt status, which means you are eligible for overtime pay.
