Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Basic Education Requirement for all professional engineering positions: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0800/files/all-professional-engineering-positions-0800.pdf In addition to meeting the basic education requirements you must meet the specialized experience requirement: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) applying engineering and scientific principles related to design of facilities; (2) managing quality of design, schedule, or budget; 3) reviewing construction plans and specifications of mechanical designs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Selective Placement Factor: This position has selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment. Position requires the incumbent to have a state registration/license as a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering.
