      Responsibilities

      The Medical Laboratory Technician (Business Assistant II) will provide clinical laboratory support for the Occupational Medicine clinic(s). Provide a variety of laboratory related functions including but not limited to specimen collection, development and adherence of chain of custody procedures, administration of various tests and examinations and the training of Occupational Medicine and Emergency Medical personnel.

      Key Responsibilities

      • Perform routine collection of clinical and drug testing specimens including blood and urine; collects, process and prepare specimens for shipment to reference laboratory and prioritize tests to be performed.
      • Administer Breathalyzer tests, record results, and ensure calibration and maintenance of equipment.
      • Receive and distribute laboratory and toxicology reports from reference laboratory; maintain regular contact with reference laboratory to ensure accurate and timely reporting of test results; determine accuracy of results, especially when abnormal findings occur; meet deadlines on all tests run to prevent sample deterioration and to provide data to providers in the most efficient manner.
        • Train Occupational Medicine and Emergency Medical personnel in drug test collection/reporting, performing and reporting the Breath Alcohol Test including the DOT mandated BAT training.
      • Maintain:
        • chain of custody for drug collection procedures.
        • up-to-date knowledge of the Federal Drug and Alcohol testing regulations.
        • all required training and certifications including First Aid, AED and CPR.
        • compliance with the Privacy and Security Standards as outlined in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
        • contact with all levels of personnel both inside and outside the company to facilitate the establishment of optimum medical service.
      • Coordinate random drug testing schedules.
      • Complete all paperwork associated with laboratory functions.
      • Generate policies/procedures pertaining to laboratory related issues.
      • Document all laboratory related issues in the patient Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
      • Oversee collection and disposal of Bio-Hazardous waste.
      • Oversees laboratory related activities performed at the Nevada National Security Site facility. Identified as the subject matter expert in this field and may direct these functions as necessary when requested.
      • Verify invoices for charges from outside laboratories.
      • Adhere to all company EEO, affirmative action, environmental, health, safety, quality assurance and security programs.
      • Demonstrate proficiency in operating computers, printers, reproduction equipment, calculators and facsimiles as assigned in support of normal job duties.
      • Perform related assignments as required.

      Qualifications

      Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required for all positions.

      • Work schedule for this position will be 4/10’s, Monday – Thursday (subject to change).
      • High School diploma or equivalent, and at least one year of related experience.
      • Point of Care Testing Experience
      • State Medical Technologist/Clinical Laboratory Technologist license (preferred) not required.
      • Training in phlebotomy including aseptic techniques. Knowledge of drug abuse testing and rehabilitation desirable.
      • Must be able to plan, organize and prioritize in order to assist in the treatment of patients in the most efficient and effective manner.
      • Must be able to work under pressure handling multiple tasks, complaints, frequent interruptions and time constraints.
      • Must possess interpersonal skills and ability to deal with ill, injured, upset and uncooperative patients in a sensitive, effective, and professional manner while screening and maintaining confidentiality.
      • Must possess excellent written and oral communications and interpersonal skills to effectively work with the patient populations, interface with co-workers and interact with providers.
      • Must be able to read/write/speak English, possess excellent mathematical skills and the ability to accurately gather and input data.
      • Must be able to follow oral and written instruction and follow through on all assignments.
      • Must be able to follow established policies and procedures, maintain department accountability standards and follow through on all assignments.
      • Must be able to provide appropriate instruction to patients with questions regarding health/wellness, physical examinations and required paperwork.
      • Must be able to maintain continuing education requirements, read and understand technical medical specifications, training materials and new techniques as required.
      • Must display a professional manner at all times and maintain a good working relationship with outside laboratories.
      • Must attain and maintain training certification for drug testing collection and BAT according to DOT and DOE requirements.
      • Must possess knowledge and understanding of the EMR system.
      • Constant mental alertness, attention to detail and accuracy required in collecting, processing and testing medical specimens according to established testing procedures.
      • Must be able to work independently and make decisions based on knowledge, experience and judgment to determine the best course of action
      • Work schedule for this position will be 4/10’s, Monday – Thursday (subject to change).
      • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
      • Must possess a valid driver's license.
      • Primary work location; Mercury , Nevada, 5 miles north of U.S. Route 95 & 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas. It is situated within the Nevada National Security Site

      Ability to obtain a HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification credential under the Department of Energy Order 206.2, ‘Identity, Credential, and Access Management,’ and Supplemental Directive NNSA SD 206.2, ‘Implementation of Personal Identity Verification for Uncleared Contractors.’

      Annual hourly range for this position is $19.78 - $29.67.

      Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
