- Serve as a medical record's technician in the Outpatient Medical Records Branch, Patient Administration Division, Keller Army Community Hospital (KACH).
- Responsible for maintaining custody and control of service treatment and outpatient medical records for beneficiaries as named in AR 40-66, 40-400 and civilian emergencies.
- Provide information concerning hours of operation and other services available within the hospital. Assists USAMEDDAC West Point satellite clinics as directed.
- Maintain custody of service treatment and outpatient medical records according to regulatory guidelines and local policies.
- Provide information and answer a wide variety of technical questions about medical records without compromising confidentiality of the patients.
- Retrieve individual medical records from the terminal digit system for scheduled appointments, walk-in patients, hospital staff use, and clinic personnel who need records for unscheduled and urgent appointments.
- Use the Medical Record Tracking (MRT) function for scanning records to the patients, appropriate clinics or back to the records room for a more effective retrieval system.
- Determine the eligibility of new patients by checking identification card (ID), Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS), and pertinent regulations.
- Interview and in-process new patients, obtaining necessary identifying data for preparation of medical record and prepares required contents (such as signature of privacy act statement, Notice of Privacy Practices, DD Form 2569 etc.).
- Operate the Composite Health Care System (CHCS) by registering patients into CHCS, updating and correcting patient information, reviewing past and present patient appointment history.
- Responsible for scanning of medical documents currently not in Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA).
- Answer phone calls from staff, patients and/or public and greets visitors.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Tier 1: Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
- This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons per Army Regulation 40-562.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes registering new patients into healthcare systems, compiling reports and/or appropriate forms for department, and assisting with medical records and forms for patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.
