      Job summary

      The post holder will work closely with the MDT and St Georges University to deliver high quality learning experiences including lecture based teaching, observations in the clinical setting, reflection and discussion. They will be expected to provide leadership to and will work closely with staff in the WNRC to develop and expand the medical students learning opportunities and learning activities in the centre; promoting an emphasis on excellence in neurorehabilitation and neurorehabilitation teaching. The clinical nature of the work undertaken will depend upon the professional background of the post holder.

      Main duties of the job

      1) Medical student P Year Neurorehabilitation attachment:

      To discuss the structure and content of the placement with medical staff, therapists and nursing staff

      Weekly - to plan and implement the placement in a timely way - ensuring all materials are prepared

      Weekly - to prepare and carry out teaching / facilitation sessions - introduction to neurorehabilitation, facilitated case discussions

      Ongoing - to support patients to make informed decisions about participating in student teaching resources such as being videoed, responding flexibly to patients needs and wishes in relation to student teaching

      To liaise with medical school co-ordinators and respond flexibly to changes as necessary

      2) Medical student P Year Neurorehabilitation attachment:

      To identify key areas of learning conjunction with the medical school and Consultant in Neurorehabilitation

      To work with the Consultant in Neurorehabilitation to develop learning materials

      To provide quality teaching and liaise with teaching clinicians in the centre to ensure that cover is provided for

      If preparing face to face lectures, to co-ordinate the preparation for the training including online resources and of the lecture space; including setting up chairs, audio visual equipment

      If preparing online teaching, to coordinate learning materials, to set up IT equipment, keep record of attendance.

      The Wolfson Neurorehabilitation Centre (WNRC) is part of St Georges Hospital Regional Neurosciences Centre. The WNRC provides intensive, goal focused neurorehabilitation for patients with acquired neurological conditions resulting in physical, cognitive and psychological disability. WNRC values training and education highly. Regular specialist teaching in neurorehabilitation is provided by the centre via external lecturing, training sessions and courses. The centre supports the learning of students and trainees in many disciplines throughout the year via clinical placements. A partnership between St Georges University Medical School and WNRC has been developed to provide medical students with an opportunity to access learning in the neurorehabilitation setting.
