Job Summary and Responsibilities:
The Mental Health Counselor provides direct care services to patients who meet the criteria for admission to the Kite Strings program. This program provides intensive group treatment for pre-pubescent ages 11-14 who are having difficulty managing mental health issues, trauma, and emotional distress. The program utilizes a cognitive re-structuring methodology to help "tweens" identify, understand, and address problems in healthy ways and encourages the child to become the hero of their own story.
The Mental Health Counselor is an active member of a treatment team and is responsible for the planning of individualized, age-specific needs-based programming for the Kite Strings program participants. The Mental Health Counselor accepts referrals for admission, conducts intakes and completes assessments; provides individual and family support sessions, psycho-educational groups, case planning and management to include utilization review; monitors program milieu, completes medical record documentation, and develops disposition plans for partial hospitalization program patients.
