      Position Overview

      As an integral part of the Mental Health Program, a Proctor III will provide services to individuals experiencing multiple needs due to severe mental illness and who require intensive input in order to maintain themselves in the community. Specific goals and activities are identified by the client and the Community Mental Health Worker. The focus of Proctor III services will be on providing rehabilitative and crisis supports in the area of social behaviour, life skills, self-care, medication self-administration, coping skills, etc.

      Experience

      • One year related volunteer/work experience.

      Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

      • Completion of an educational training program in the area of mental health.
      • Other combinations of education and experience will be considered.

      Certification/Licensure/Registration

      • Valid driver’s license preferred.

      Qualifications and Skills

      • Understanding of client empowerment.
      • Knowledge of major mental illnesses and interventions.
      • Ability to assess and teach basic life skills.
      • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
      • Understanding of the issues faced by individuals experiencing a mental illness.
      • Good interpersonal skills.
      • Knowledge of community resources.
      • Ability to work independently.

      The Collective Agreement this position is covered under, is identified by the Union noted above. As a result of The Health Sector Bargaining Unit Review Act , the bargaining agent for this position may differ from the Union identified.       This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
