      Job Summary

      Hybrid Work Environment - Must reside on Oahu

      Pay Range: $37,715 - $54,447

      Note: Individuals typically begin between the minimum to middle of the pay range

      To enhance the customer experience and protect HMSA's reputation by ensuring the accuracy of monthly premium billing and providing research support to the Membership Servicing Department.

      The MS Billing & Research Specialist I is responsible for resolving member billing reconciliation inquiries and routine requests from employer groups and members, performing functions necessary to fulfill these requests including balancing and reconciling eligibility and dues payments. To accomplish this, the MS Billing & Research Specialist I will be required to work with any necessary internal and external contacts, including, but not limited to, the onboarding and servicing teams.

      Minimum Qualifications

      1. Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
      2. Strong accounting skills
      3. Written and verbal communication skills to explain reason and resolution for billing issues
      4. Analytical and problem-solving skills
      5. Basic working knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
      6. Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Excel

      Duties and Responsibilities

      1. Research member billing issues and routine group billing issues; effectively communicate (written, telephonically or in person) the outcome of the research and resolution to the issue in a timely manner.
        • Ensure appropriate approval levels are satisfied.
        • Adhere to all audit and compliance policies and procedures.
      2. Analyze discrepancy reports as a result of billing or payment application differences between multiple systems.
        • Coordinate with other units/departments to resolve the discrepancy.
        • Work with other areas as needed for research and resolution.
        • Suggest process improvements based on discrepancy identification.
      3. Provide support to the department as assigned; assisting related efforts to ensure resolution in a timely and accurate manner.
        • Learn and develop skills with billing functions to support reduction of team inventories.
          Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned or directed.
