- Possess a clear understanding of all types of building, mechanical and electrical systems currently in operation in Healthcare type premises.
- To work in accordance with the requirements of all relevant Hospital Technical Memorandums, Health & Safety Regulations and Building Regulations etc, as appointed Competent Person.
- Diagnose, service and repair faults in building, mechanical and electrical installations, plant and equipment.
- Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance on building, mechanical and electrical installations, plant and equipment.
- Manufacture, assemble and install new building, mechanical and electrical plant and equipment.
- Carry out sign-off procedures for all types of building, mechanical and electrical plant and equipment, following repair or installation, in compliance with all relevant Hospital Technical Memorandums, Health & Safety Regulations and Building Regulations, etc.
- Responsible for installation testing, general inspections and servicing of Gas Installations and equipment.
- Liaise with Managers, Engineering Officers, regarding plant and equipment failures and to request the supply of goods and/or services as necessary.
- Complete all Estates led documentation and test certificates as necessary.
- Use all relevant hand and machine tools along with the necessary test equipment.
- Undertake the duties of other craft trades as and when required to meet the needs of the Department.
- Be able to interpret and work from drawings and specifications.
- Offer lead assistance to Craftsperson's and Maintenance Assistants, and any others over all aspects of their own craft.
- Perform all of the duties of the post as required without direct supervision.
- Undertake all minor fabric of the building repairs inline with current standards
- Liaise with specialist contractors and other EMT staff concerning repairs, etc and follow up work that is not completed in a reasonable time.
- Survey the area of responsibility and initiate any work requiring attention.
- Ensure that all parts and materials required are ordered promptly up to a signatory limit of £250 and obtain the necessary authority if orders are of a greater value.
- Control and maintain, in the area of responsibility a small quantity of stores items and review the requirements.
- Issue Permits To Work and ensure that the permit to work system is rigorously adhered to.
- Liaise with Healthcare Managers and staff to discuss all maintenance related issues.
- Understand fully the inter-relationship between the various maintenance crafts.
- Be aware of current Health & Safety requirements and safe working practices.
- Carry out complex manual handling tasks in line with the duties of the post.
- Undertake On Call duties as part of the On Call team to ensure that emergency repairs occurring out of normal hours are attended to.
- Plan and organise minor work programmes for self and others, ordering parts and materials as required.
- To carry at all times a communications device such as Mobile Phone and respond to all communications.
- To deputise for other Technicians as and when required.
- To work overtime/flexibly as and when required to carry out emergency repairs
- Any other reasonable duties that may be determined from time to time

Job summary
Multi Skilled Technician
Band 5 - £29,970 - £36,483 per annum plus additional on-call payments
37.5 hours per week, full time.
Working hours Monday to Thursday - 08:00 - 16:30, Friday - 08:00 - 14:00.
The Estates Team is part of the Corporate Directorate and supports all Directories in the Trust. We consists of approximately 25 staff and are a reactive service with frontline staff. The Facilities Team are much wider and work in conjunction with the Estates Team.
Main duties of the job
The Multi-Skilled Technician will provide a technical and manual service in maintaining the structure, services, plant and equipment in buildings on behalf of the EMT customer base. They will be responsible for fault finding on a wide range of building, mechanical and electrical, plant and equipment. They will be responsible for ensuring that day-to-day maintenance tasks are recognised and completed within a satisfactory timescale. They will liaise with Healthcare Managers and other staff to provide a safe environment for the care of patients. They will perform work activities that will be complex and or non-routine in a variety of different trades. The post demands a flexible approach to working hours, to cover any potential problems. The Technician must be committed to being versatile and flexible and they will be expected to undergo training in an effort to keep up to date with their specific trades. They must also acquire through training, all of the extra skills required for the post, in an effort to increase their knowledge and versatility.
