      Description

      New Horizons Program Coordinator assists the Senior Program Director and Executive Director in overseeing the development and operations of a YMCA branch department or child and youth development area. Assists in the supervision of designated department in the areas of: fiscal responsibility, health and safety, staff development and supervision, program quality, operational effectiveness, volunteer and community development, and fundraising. Assists in providing leadership to the department, branch and association in the areas of: collaboration, mission advancement, communication, decision making, and project management.

      Responsibilities

      • Assist in development, organization and implementation of diverse recreation events and innovative programming for developmentally disabled adults and teens.

      • In coordination with staff, secures and schedules event venues, locations, staffing, and travel arrangements.

      • In coordination with staff, conducts pre-enrollment intake with each member and caregiver to assess for member’s ability to successfully participate in programming (Health, behavior, social skills, etc.)

      • Provides member’s caregiver with progress on event participation, health & safety, and social interactions.

      • Assists maintaining of all individual contracts for New Horizons program (coordination with Regional Center, agency billing, and private pay families), exercising independent judgment to do more than merely apply techniques and procedures.

      • Assists in developing and maintaining positive relationships/partnerships with community organizations for program (Regional Center, Department of Rehabilitation, local cities, etc.)

      • Assists in developing and implementing parent/caregiver/staff resources and workshops related to adults with special needs.

      • Attendance and active participation in community meetings, events, and conferences related to special needs adults.

      • Obtains and maintains a Class B Driver’s License for transporting members to program events, maintain program vehicles through vehicle inspections, scheduling necessary vehicle maintenance, maintain all records regarding vehicles and program drivers.

      • Provide YMCA Driver Tests and train staff on P&P regarding Driver & Transportation.

      Qualifications


      Minimum Qualifications:

      The following are the minimum qualifications which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the duties & responsibilities of this position. Please note that the minimum qualifications may vary based upon the department size and/or geographic location.

      Experience & Background:

      Must be 21 years of age. 3+ years of related experience and supervision required (in addition to the education off-set). Additional years of experience may offset some of the educational requirement. Experience working with diverse populations.

      Skills & Abilities:

      • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

      • Excellent planning, organizing, and leadership/supervisory skills.

      • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.

      • Proficiency in Windows/Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, etc.).

      • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

      • Strong customer and results orientation.

      • Ability to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures.

      • Ability to be an effective member of project teams.
