- Provide nutrition/breastfeeding counseling for low income, pregnant, breastfeeding women, postpartum women, infants, and children.
- Manage high risk counseling cases and complex assessment and infant formula calculations, perform anthropometric and biochemical measurements, and approve specialty infant formulas.
- Counsel high risk individuals on complex health issues, including anemia, overweight/underweight, and wellness.
- Plan, develop, and teach classes on nutrition/breastfeeding, prenatal, and breastfeeding education.
- Provide training and education on breastfeeding practices and child and infant nutrition/breastfeeding issues.
- Counsel and educate clients on proper nutrition/breastfeeding practices and provide referrals to other community service agencies as appropriate.
- Distribute educational, training, and procedural materials to clients.
- Provide outreach programs to explain the nature of PHSD programs and services to community groups and identify, evaluate, and report community needs.
- Perform work of a Nutrition Specialist as needed to meet workload demands.
- Assist with training and cross-training of Nutrition Specialists.
- Maintain case file records.
- Maintain valid Arizona State Driver’s license.
- Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.
- Perform other related duties as required.

- Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics or other nutrition related field.
- Credentialed as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or credentialed as an RD within 6 months of hire.
- Valid Arizona State Driver's License.
- Bi-lingual English-Spanish language skills.
- Knowledge of federal and state public health program regulations and requirements, including Arizona Department of Health Services procedures and standards, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other grant funded programs.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of nutrition, therapeutic nutrition, and child development.
- Knowledge of methods, practices, and procedures for assisting public health clients.
- Knowledge of regional community service agencies, community resources, public health programs, and other public assistance programs for appropriate referrals.
- Knowledge of principles of record keeping and records management.
- Skill in providing effective client services including interviewing, teaching, counseling, and records management.
- Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands.
- Skill in explaining state laws and County policies and procedures governing public health functions.
- Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
- Ability to use courtesy and respect in providing client services.

JOB SUMMARY
Provide client services for the Community Health Nutrition Programs (CHNP), including the Women Infants & Children (WIC) program, nutritional/breastfeeding counseling, education and training, work with high-risk clients, and help with complex nutrition/breastfeeding problems under basic supervision.Work in this classification requires an individual to be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily.
