- Must work in a team environment and participate in group meetings.
- Must be willing to train younger staff on all types of rail electrification systems.
- Provide coordination between all disciplines while working towards project initial start through completion.
- Maintain accountability for handling specific design aspects through completion.
- Serves as a technical liaison with client and other team members, when applicable.
- Participates in the collection and analysis of data.
- Preparation of contract drawings, reports, cost estimated, calculations and specifications.
- Ability to design on screen in the production of CAD drawings in Autocad and/or Microstation.
- Assist with marketing and proposal writing.
- Prepares design and construction cost estimates.
- Ability to travel across North America when required and must be able to obtain passport.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Work location would include both Office and Home depending on the candidate’s location. Short-term travel to cities will be required depending on project needs. Long term field assignments may also be available.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical Engineering, or similar.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrification systems for intercity, commuter systems, heavy rail, light rail, streetcar and/or electrified trolleybus.
- Must have a valid Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with CADD software, Autocad and/or Microstation.
- Experience in Microsoft Office products, such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint.
- Must have a valid US driver’s license.
- Preferred 7 years of experience from previous consultant firms, rail transit construction or transit agency experience.
- California will be $88,309.00 - $148,095.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
- Colorado will be $84,469.00 - $120,670.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
- New York will be $95,988.00 - $137,125.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
- Washington will be $88,309.00- $126,155.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.

HDR is seeking a talented driven individual who is interested in Overhead Contact Systems (OCS) for rail electrification. This would be a great opportunity to work in a very niche industry on challenging rail transit projects across North America.
The primary duties of the OCS Engineer (Overhead Contact System) include design production and technical leadership for rail systems projects pertaining to traction electrification and overhead contact systems (OCS). Specific responsibilities include design, technical leadership of specific design packages as well as coordinating the assembly of plans, specifications, cost estimating and construction support. This position supports various rail and transit projects throughout North America to serve the contract requirements and respond to client needs. This individual will also be responsible for developing client relationships and proposing on potential projects.
The successful candidate will have experience in developing technical specifications, design criteria and production drawings for AC and/or DC overhead contact systems. As such, the candidate will have the ability to pro-actively lead tasks between technical groups and be innovative in solving complex challenges.
