      Job Description

      The Regional Mechanical Engineering Officer plans, organizes, coordinates and leads the work of a multidisciplinary design team during the detail design phase of postal plant design projects or enhancements.

      Prepares project timelines, budgets and identifies staffing requirements to meet goals. Involved in all aspects of project management, leading, financial, scheduling, design, risk assessment, implementation, overseeing 3rd party work or deliverables and review. Provides mechanical engineering skills and expertise to develop, model, simulate, optimize, design, install and maintain the Corporation’s mechanical systems and processes.

      The incumbent develops plans and procedures to modify both existing and new systems and equipment; carries out field and factory inspections and tests and recommends acceptance or rejection.

      Job Responsibilities

      Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Regional Mechanical Engineering Officer.

      • Provides engineering support on all aspects of mechanical systems and equipment installed in Regional plants. Assists in the development of plans, policies and procedures to modify existing systems and equipment.

      • Develop and use up to date design criteria and engineering principles in the modification and redesigning of mechanical equipment.

      • Develops programs, drawings, layouts, and writes detail specifications and technical requirements for the construction, installation, maintenance, repair, modification, relocation and improvement of complex mechanical equipment and its components required to undertake specific mail processing operations.

      • Determines causes of any failures and recommends design improvements that will facilitate effective performance and eliminate future failures.

      • Evaluates engineering information submitted for approval by consultants, contractors, manufacturers and suppliers. Performs technical evaluations of various proposals.

      • Undertakes field or factory inspections, tests and trials of mechanical equipment being installed, assembled, manufactures and/or tested against specifications and drawings and makes recommendations on acceptance or rejection. This is done to ensure compliance with federal and provincial legislation in effect. (Canada Labour Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Canada Post Corporation Safety Standards etc)

      • Manages and leads systems design, development and implementations of systems in order to meet business requirements.

      • Manages and leads systems design, development and implementations of systems in order to meet business requirements.

      - Ensure team cohesion, leading the project team in the analysis of specifications from users or their representatives.

      - Reviews proposals provided by the project team, subject matter experts, analysts, technologist and implements the optimal solution, reviews and adjusts projects/enhancements priorities in accordance with user requirements.

      - Reports projects/enhancement issues to management on timely basis.

      - Develops project plans, provides cost estimates, prepares business cases, resource estimates and planned life cycle time frames; report also on related costs, contracts and investments issues.

      - System development, testing and integration with other sub-system and/or interfaces, design and review the proposed system/equipment solution at all (required/applicable) levels.

      • Develop relevant training material for applicable use and integration throughout the operational community (notably mail ops and plant maintenance).

      • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of current methods, technologies and development advances in the field of engineering in order to ensure keeping abreast of innovative technologies used to move the mail efficiently and effectively.

      Qualifications

      Education

      • A University or College degree/diploma in a related field.
      • Designation/Certifications: Designation and or certifications programs may be required for certain positions (i.e. Finance & Engineering).

      Experience

      • 2-5 years of related work experience is required.
