- Assess the quality of complex risks based on Property Damage, Business Interruption, and Natural Hazard exposures, per the appropriate standard(s), to assist Underwriters in Risk Selection.
- Provide appropriate risk improvement advice, collaborate on loss investigations (including both trend and root cause analysis), and implement risk improvement programs.
- Support external customers by identifying and reducing the risks that they face individually, and on an overall account basis.
- Develop estimated loss scenarios with respect to property and business interruption.
- Desktop risk assessments based on 3rd party market reports for prospect and existing accounts, validating findings for underwriting.
- Attend Risk Engineering Surveys carried out by Brokers’, competitors, or independent Engineers where possible and validating findings for underwriting.
- Lead risk engineering surveys of OGP facilities, providing a risk assessment for underwriting and/or market risk engineering report for the customer and other 3rd parties.
- Compile information for account to produce an overall assessment for business partners.
- Produce work that complies with Company standards, in terms of technical quality of policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain positive customer and business partner relationships and collaborate with both customers and Business partners to develop appropriate service plans.
- Anticipate, recognize, and respond to the needs of customers by providing expert solutions and training, and contribute to Business Operation Profit through opportunity spotting and cross selling.
- Share technical expertise with colleagues, business partners, and customers through training delivery or participation in a Center of Expertise for industry segment.
- Represent the region in the respective global technical center team and contribute to the development of global technical standards and training offerings in own area of expertise.
- Involvement in technical Risk Engineering committees.
- Maintain a Valid Driver's License
- Bachelor’s Degree and 6 or more years of experience within the Chemical Industry or Risk Engineering area
OR - High School Diploma or Equivalent and 8 or more years of experience within the Chemical Industry or Risk Engineering area
- Zurich Certified Apprentice, including an Associate’s degree and 6 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering area
- Bachelor’s Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering area
OR - High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering area
OR - Zurich Certified Apprentice, including an Associate’s degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering area
AND - Knowledge of exposures, controls and best practice risk improvement
- Practical experience within the chemical, oil, gas, petrochemical or refining industry
- Chemical Engineering Degree
- Professional designation, industry certification, or advanced degree
- Knowledge of Process Safety Management programs
- Knowledge of process operations and able to understand various technologies
- Familiarity of industry codes and standards such as API, NFPA, ISO, ASME, OSHA
- Strong skills with Office 365 programs (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook)
- Ability to utilize software such as loss modeling tools; web-based platforms
- Strong time management skills and workload management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and consultative skills
Zurich Resilience Services is seeking a highly motivated Risk Engineer or Chemical Industry Professional to join our national team of professional Risk Engineers. Our team provides risk management and loss prevention assessments of businesses in the Oil, Gas and Petrochemical (OGP) sector for customers and business partners as part of the Energy Property insurance segment.
Approximately 30% travel servicing nationwide customers. This is a work from home role.
Personnel will perform both field engineering and account engineering services.

The role will be filled at the Senior Risk Engineering Consultant or Principal Risk Engineering Specialist level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position.
This position involves the use of a company car. If selected for the position, your driving record will be examined.
