The Health & Life Sciences Practice

The Program

This is 2-day immersive program for Life Sciences Advanced Degree Candidates designed to provide participants with an in-depth view of health and life sciences strategy consulting at Oliver Wyman.

The program will be in held in-person in May 2024 and will feature opportunities to:

• Learn more about OW as a firm and the type of work we do in the HLS practice
• Gain hands-on experience working through a simulated case with HLS consultants and present findings to senior management
• Network with all levels of HLS staff

Top candidates will receive full-time offers for our Senior Consultant role. Earliest available start date is September 2025.

The PhD Senior Consultant Role

• PhDs, MDs, and PharmDs play an integral client-facing or work-stream leadership role. The position offers excellent career and growth opportunities for talented, highly motivated professionals. We are seeking candidates for the Senior Consultant Level. Initial responsibilities could include:
• Managing the execution of individual project modules; developing hypotheses, model creation and analyses, conducting primary and secondary research, and surfacing insights
• Analytics and Problem Solving: Conduct client interviews related to data and process design to solve business problems, construct and lead data collection and analysis, produce client-ready deliverables
• Client Relationship Management: Independently lead client interviews, run well organized meetings, act as the direct point of contact with client, effectively obtain feedback and address concerns
• Supporting our Partner group in project delivery through accurate and high-quality project execution
• Owning and developing executive client relationships and presenting to a wide range of audiences
• Management of junior team; effectively providing leverage for the senior project staff
• Professional Acumen: Demonstrate Oliver Wyman’s core values, high self-awareness, and effective communication skills
  

Desired Skills and Experience

Basic Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree required, PhD, MD, or PharmD degree (have completed by June 2025) in biology, chemistry, biomedical engineering, or other related life sciences field required
• Strong background in conceptual problem solving and analytical skills
• Ability to apply depth of content knowledge for thought leadership in project execution, and to develop new intellectual capital to support business development activities
• Outstanding communication skills; confidence in presenting to senior executives
• Willingness to travel
• Full-time start dates will range from September 2025 to January 2026

Preferred Requirements:

• Primary (industry expert interviewing) & secondary (industry research, market profiling, journal review) research
• Data synthesis, analytics (financial modeling, database creating & manipulation, market sizing)
• Communication and presentation skills
• Management and training of junior staff
