SUMMARY:
The Minneapolis College of Art and Design seeks applicants for a part-time Adjunct Faculty in the fully online Master of Arts in Sustainable Design (MASD) program. This position is for an instructor to teach the elective course Biomimetic Design. This course will be taught in Spring 2025 and again in future semesters on a rotating basis. The Online Adjunct Faculty, Biomimetic Design must be sensitive to college needs, employee and student goodwill, and overall brand equity of MCAD as an employer and educational institution.

DETAILS: This is a non-benefit eligible exempt contract position expected to work approximately 10 hours per week. This position reports to the Director, Master of Art in Sustainable Design and is paid $5,547 for the course.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
In this course, students learn how to abstract functional strategies from nature to apply to the process of innovative design. This project-oriented studio course covers core biological principles, astounds students with the wealth of design solutions available in nature, and provides numerous case studies of innovative designs inspired by natural models. Overall, this course provides powerful metaphors and methods for looking to nature as a model, mentor, and measure in our designs.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teach 15 week online, asynchronous Biomimetic Design course in the MA in Sustainable Design program
• Arrange and attend occasional synchronous meetings with students, faculty, and department director
• Hold regular office hours.
• Report student feedback and grading in a timely manner
• Other program and curriculum related duties as assigned
• Opportunity to be a thesis advisor and committee member
• Represents MCAD’s vision, purpose, and values in day to day work and interactions with MCAD students, staff, faculty, and campus guests, as well as the greater community
