      About this opportunity:

      The Conventional Operations Team is looking to fill a Calgary-based Operations Engineering role for the conventional business. Reporting to the Manager, Conventional Operations Engineering, this dynamic role has primary accountability for key aspects of the P&L, is responsible for the development and implementation of the base asset strategy for value maximization, and is responsible for all aspects of Operations Engineering, troubleshooting and technical support through the well production and field facilities disciplines to achieve a safe, compliant and efficient operation.

      The Operations Engineer will need to have an awareness of Cenovus’s standards, procedures, codes, specifications, as well as industry best practices. The successful candidate must exercise independent judgment when interpreting information to resolve regulatory and operational challenges while making decisions and recommendations aligned to the business needs and budgets. They will be required to work within a team environment of collaboration and effective communication. They will also need to build solid working relationships with several internal and external stakeholder groups in order to drive alignment, elicit positive change and enhance asset value. In addition, they will support a culture of continuous improvement and ensure the rapid implementation of identified business process and technical enhancements.

      Responsibilities:

      • Promote safety as a core value in their approach to design and execution of work in their area. Champion a focus on Process Safety in design and operation; including as a key stakeholder in PSE response.

      • Primary accountability for all key aspects of the P&L for geographic area of responsibility, including production, operating costs, and operations capital. In close collaboration with area Foreman, drive optimized business and safety performance and realization of business plan objectives and targets.

      • Provide technical infrastructure, design and process engineering support to the operation. This includes hydraulic pipeline modelling, compressor evaluations, control valve sizing and process modelling.

      • Perform wellbore troubleshooting and oversee interventions required to support wellbore optimization. This will include preparing cost estimates, artificial lift design and writing programs for execution of routine interventions.

      • Provide engineering support for repairs, mechanical alterations, utilization of alternate products or materials and new equipment installations as the primary stakeholder in the Management of Change (MOC) process.

      • Accountable for project technical scoping, design, cost estimating, and economic analysis across geographic area of responsibility. Prepare and present project justification material to an integrated team to ensure alignment of opportunity with corporate initiatives and budgets. Execute projects with prudent financial administration, including initiating AFE approval, monitoring project spend, accurate monthly accruals, and providing timely communication of deviations from budget.

      • Engage other key stakeholders (including Finance, Joint Venture, Production Revenue Accounting, and Commercial) and apply insight into monthly business performance, identifying and implementing opportunities to optimize area value.

      • Resolve maintenance and operational issues by providing project scoping, feasibility, constructability, and preliminary cost estimating.

      • Provide direction and design interpretations for piping, pressure vessels, tanks, pumps, exchangers, compressors and other mechanical equipment.

      • Interpret and apply corporate specifications, governing Codes (e.g.: ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, CSA Z662, API), Acts, Regulations and recommended practices

      • Foster collaborative environment with field personnel to develop and implement engineered solutions to maintenance and operational issues.

      • Maintain regulatory compliance on wellbores, pipelines and facilities. This includes but is not limited to: inactive well, pipeline, and facility compliance, pipeline & facility licensing, GHG monitoring and compliance considerations.

      • Routinely interface with the Integrated Operations Center (IOC) to understand common well problems and drive value optimization.

      • Provide key inputs to resource development plans and new drill campaigns including optimized wellbore, artificial lift and facility design, operating cost assumptions, and non-well infrastructure requirements.

      • Steward efficient execution and onstream of new well programs.

      • Encourage culture of knowledge sharing across Conventional Operations Engineering.

      Qualifications:

      • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

      • Professional Engineer sanctioned by APEGA with ability to authenticate mechanical engineering deliverables

      • 4+ years of relevant operations, facility and production engineering experience

      • Knowledge and application of frequently used codes (ASME B31.3, CSA Z662 etc.)

      • Working knowledge of upstream oil and gas industry and facility design

      • Strong communication skills with an ability to influence multi-disciplinary teams including Field Operations, Maintenance, Regulatory, Finance, Commercial, Marketing and external companies

      • Must be able to multi-task effectively and manage competing deadlines

      • Possess troubleshooting skills with an ability to make timely and consistent decisions on a broad variety of topics
