Responsibilities
-Manage husbandry staff and vivarium operations
- Formulate short and long-term goals for the operation of the vivarium, including setting priorities, assigning responsibilities, establishing timetables, and ensuring timetables are met
- Maintain safety and ensure that the laboratory remains in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations
- Assist in the development of budgets and budgetary recommendations. Compile and deliver reports to support requests for additional head-count or staff promotions
- Hold team meetings, organize team building activities on regular basis, and conduct refresher trainings.
- Responsible for supervision and performance management of direct reports
- Ensure efficient and effective operations of the different teams including department quality control and staff compliance through: establishing quality standards by working closely with QA manager, conducting routine spot checks, writing new/revising SOPs as needed, supporting CAPA meetings to implement corrective and preventative actions, adjusting lab policies/procedures as needed when standards aren’t met.
- Responsible for maintaining documentation pertaining to IACUC, OLAW, and AAALAC
- Monthly reporting of KPIs, analyze trends and develop solutions
- Monitoring vivarium equipment maintenance and certifications.
- Support In Vivo Research Activities, such as PKPD studies
- Support increased utilization of vivarium capacity
- Support In Vivo team to meet study objectives and timelinesEducation and Requirements
- An associate degree in animal science or related field is required
- A bachelor degree or master's degree in animal science or related field is preferred
- 5+ years of management experience in a vivarium environment is required
- AALAS certification at LATG level or higher is preferred
Skills Requirement
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage direct reports in an in vivo environment
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement a training program for direct reports
- Demonstrated ability to think critically, evaluate conditions, identify and resolve challenges is required
- Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic, cross-functional team environment is essential
- Demonstrated sense of integrity and confidentiality is essential
- Superior time and task organization, computer, written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated accountability and responsibility for own work
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures, observe safety and security procedures
- Conflict resolution, performance & talent management skills are required.- Comfortable using computers, including advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, and internet
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Requires physical dexterity of fingers, hands, wrists, and arms.
- Requires overtime hours to be worked, as well as possible work on weekends and holidays
- Picking up and moving materials and supplies- Able to lift up to 25 pounds.
The California salary range for this position is $66,560 to $80,000 per year. This salary (or salary range) is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience.
