      Job Description

      As an Intern in our Operations Research department, you will assist with building new optimization models, enhancing the existing mathematical models, and conducting data analyses. You will also be working with development of decision support software (DSS) to improve assets utilization and to reduce operating cost. The application front end uses technologies ranging from HTML, java scripts, CSS, Flex, and Swing. The application back end uses technologies ranging from Struts, Spring, Hibernate, JDBC, etc running on Weblogic, TOMCAT, and IIS application servers.

      Duties & Responsibilities:

      Operations Research Interns: Candidates with educational training in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research and other related engineering majors will assist the Operations Research group with building new optimization models, enhancing the existing mathematical models, and conducting data analyses.

      Skills: Some basic programming skill in Java or C++ is a plus.

      Education/Experience:

      Pursuing a Master’s/PhD Degree

      • Preferred Degree Paths: Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, Management Science and Statistics, and majors in a similar field of study

      Location

      You Must be able to work on location at Norfolk Southern's midtown Atlanta, GA HQ.

      Ability to work 40 hours per week is Required, during normal business hours.
