      The Center for Arts in Medicine in the College of the Arts seeks a Journal Coordinator to join us in creating the first journal pursuing practice in Arts in Health. The successful candidate will monitor submission progress, coordinate submissions, and synthesize feedback from editors into actionable revision suggestions for authors.

      Responsibilities:

      • Tracking and monitoring the progress of incoming journal submissions.
      • Managing editorial calendar, including scheduling and tracking of articles and other content.
      • Tracking progress of open peer review process and contacting guest editorial board reviewers.
      • Working with the editorial board to determine article placement in upcoming issues.
      • Organizing submissions and coordinating publications with authors and editor (Center Director).
      • Developing production schedules and ensuring materials are delivered on time.
      • Updating and maintaining the journal website.
      • Initially reviewing author manuscripts to ensure submissions follow submission guidelines.
      • Proofreading and formatting articles to fit into the journal’s template.
      • Coordinating communication between authors and peer-reviewers, as needed.
      • Monitoring broader publishing trends.
      • Assisting the editor(Center Director) with writing review letters.
      • Other tasks as assigned by the editor (Center Director).

      CENTER FOR ARTS IN MEDICINE: Housed in the College of the Arts, the Center for Arts in Medicine (CAM) is committed to advancing research, education, and practice in the arts in health, locally and globally. The Center facilitates research, education, and training in the use of the arts to enhance health in healthcare and public health contexts. The Center provides a framework for interdisciplinary collaboration among University of Florida faculty and students, healthcare providers, clinical artists, and our local and global communities.       Expected Salary:

      $24 - 26 hourly

      Minimum Requirements:
      • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization; and experience in editing for journal or equivalent publications; OR high school diploma or equivalent, with 6 years of related experience.
      • Able to work up to 10 hours per week
      Preferred Qualifications:

      The successful candidate will bring to the position:

      • Knowledge of scholarly fields related to arts in health
      • Working Proficiency of email and teams-based communication technologies (Microsoft or Google Suite).
      • Ability to collaborate well and correspond efficiently and effectively with authors, editors, and board members
      • Proven attention to detail and initiative to meet deadlines without prompting
      • Experience in proofreading and APA-style copy-editing skills
      • Able to synthesize feedback from editors into actionable revision suggestions for authors
      • Experience using a publishing management system (Open Journal Systems) or similar CMS
      • Willingness to learn new technologies and programs, as needed
      • Evidence of success in promoting an environment that advances pluralism, curiosity, viewpoint diversity, open discourse, and the well-being of all.
