As part of our Camera Technologies group, you’ll help design the innovative technology that allows each generation of Apple products to produce photos even more incredible than the last. You’ll design and develop groundbreaking ideas for everything involved in our camera systems, from sensor to lens. You’ll collaborate with teams across Apple to research, design, develop, test, and qualify camera hardware for Apple products. Together, we’ll craft a magical photography experience that redefines what millions of customers can expect from their cameras. This Optics Metrology Lead role is a terrific position for someone passionate about willing to lead exciting multi-functional optical projects! Our organization plays a key role in keeping up the quality standards at Apple and making sure that our customers are happy with the quality and experience of the imaging technology in our products. Engineers in this role enjoy having a chance to lead the design of complete and custom optical measurement systems instrumental to the quality of Apple's outstanding imaging features! You will be in charge of the development and factory roll out of industry leading calibration and metrology test solutions for the manufacture of optical components. You will understand the user impact of the test metrics and provide guidance to the wider camera team. You will work with the components owners to help them realize their components performance objectives in mass production, by making sure the metrology and test solutions provide the best possible feedback to process for performance improvement. Key Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant development experience
- Optics / image processing knowledge
- Experience in data analysis using JMP, Tableau or similar
- Confidence in dealing with statistical, mathematical, physics, engineering functions
- Effective at communications & collaboration with other engineers across multiple teams
- Proactive, self-motivated engineer who can take the initiative and lead improvement
- Willingness and ability to travel: up to 2~4 times travel a year and estimate in 8-10 day trips
Description
- You will own and lead optics metrology & test architecture, communicating test plans and capabilities to the x-functional team - Identify future gaps in capability then lead the creation and roll out of solutions to fill those gaps - Investigate and push the boundaries of calibration and test coverage - Data analysis to assess test capability against test specifications and end user impact - Improvement and optimization of the metrology and test solutions - Analysis of test metric fundamentals and test specification methodology to drive improvements - Documentation of metrology & test engineering requirement specifications and developing/completing project plans in coordination with the component owners - Specify test stations and diagnostics for testing product features, specifying/ implementing test process control and test data collection
Education & Experience
BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience

- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $138,900.00 and $256,500.00, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
