      Job summary

      An opportunity has arisen within the Trust to join the Oral and Maxillo Facial (OMFS) Department from September 2025 until September 2026 on a fixed term contract as a Trust Doctor.

      The Department carries out the full range of oral and facial surgery, including oral and facial malignancy and microvascular surgery, facial deformity, facial hard and soft tissue trauma, surgical dermatology and dentoalveolar surgery. There will be a requirement to cross cover out of hours with colleagues in Ear Nose and Throat (ENT).

      Applicants should possess BDS or equivalent dental qualification as recognized by the GDC, hold full GDC registration.

      Interviews will be held on Friday 23rd May.

      Main duties of the job

      The post is centred on Sunderland Royal Hospital. The department overs both elective and 'on call' commitments to hospitals south of the Tyne, including Shotley Bridge, South Tyneside and University Hospital of North Durham.

      It may be very occasionally necessary to visit hospitals in the surrounding area for surgical lists and to attend emergencies.

      The clinical work will include:

      • Theatre Lists.
      • Outpatient clinics.
      • Ward work to provide care for pre & post-operative patients.
      • Medical Examination of Patients.
      • Attending to emergency patients presenting to A&E in Sunderland.
      • Dento-alveolar and minor oral surgery.
      • 1:7 on call cover including cross cover with ENT during out of hours on a joint rota.
