      Job summary

      This is a 12-month fixed term appointment to the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to work as a Foot & Ankle Fellow, under the supervision of two fellowship trained Orthopaedic Consultants (Mr Robin Elliot & Mr Daniel Marsland) who are sub-specialised in foot and ankle surgery. This role is identified as an important part of the Trust's strategy to remain a preferred provider to local Health Authorities and Clinical Commissioning Groups across a wide range of hospital services.

      The appointment will enhance an existing successful track record of a Unit, which has an enviable reputation for good quality patient care and the determination to build upon this.

      Main duties of the job

      • Contribute to the provision of a comprehensive, high quality foot and ankle service at the Trust
      • Deliver clinical sessions in out-patients and theatres
      • Take a lead role in the department's current foot and ankle research portfolio
      • Assist in the teaching and training of junior surgical colleagues and allied health professionals

      The successful candidate will be expected to achieve competencies and objectives during the post that will include:

      • Assessment, investigation and diagnosis of all foot and ankle conditions in out-patients
      • Hallux valgus surgery
      • Lesser toe surgeries
      • Fusions (1st MTPJ, midfoot, hindfoot)
      • Ankle arthroscopy
      • Ankle ligament reconstruction
      • Total ankle replacement
      • Achilles tendon repair (minimally-invasive)
      • Achilles tendon debridement / reattachment
      • Foot and ankle trauma
      • Assessment and treatment of paediatric foot & ankle conditions

      (Extra sessions delivered as part of the trauma on call service can be discussed at the time of appointment)
