The Challenge (Job Summary)

As an Orthotist, you have the opportunity to live our core values every day by helping our patients in all walks of life, providing high quality care, working with an excellent team, being a trusted resource for our patients and team members, and having an impact in the community through our engagement and volunteer efforts. In addition, the ideal candidate will be responsible for designs and fabricating medical supportive devices and measures and fits patients for them.

Your Day to Day & Essential Functions:

• Examine and measure patients to determine their appliance needs and to identify factors that could affect appliance fit.
• Fit, test and evaluate devices on patients, and make adjustments for proper fit, function, and comfort.
• Instruct patients in the use and care of orthoses and instruct patients in use of assistive equipment.
• Select materials and components to be used, based on device design.
• Design orthopedic devices based on physicians’ prescriptions and examination and measurement of patients.
• Make and modify plaster casts of areas that will be fitted with orthoses, for use in the device construction process.
• Confer with physicians to formulate specifications and prescriptions for orthopedic devices.
• Construct and fabricate appliances or supervise others constructing the appliances.
• Maintain patients’ records.

What You Need to Succeed (Competencies, Education):

• Bachelors of Science Degree in Orthotics.
• Licensed Orthotist in the State of Ohio.
• Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures and systems.
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
• Knowledge of information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries.
• Knowledge of OSHA and HIPAA Compliance
• Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of existing methods and procedures.
• Ability to operate a variety of common office equipment and computer programs.
• Ability to interact with patients, medical and administrative staff, and public effectively.
