What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Independently assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes to patient health information records across various departments
- Perform chart analysis to identify and correct incomplete or inconsistent documentation
- Utilize coding resources and maintain knowledge of current coding guidelines and regulations
- Participate in coding in-services, staff meetings, and the development of organizational procedures
- Assist with special projects as assigned while maintaining confidentiality and effective communication
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in a related coding field or 18 months within the employer’s Apprentice program
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required
- Certification from one of the following: Registered Health Information Administrator, Registered Health Information Technician, or Certified Coding Specialist
- Advanced knowledge of medical coding principles, including ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and HCPCS/CPT
- Ability to manage a significant workload and meet established deadlines with minimal supervision
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in a health information/medical record environment, including facility coding experience
- Proficient knowledge of EMR systems and Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to analyze and develop information regarding productivity trends and outcomes
- Extensive knowledge of ICD-10 coding guidelines and CMS HCC Risk Adjustment coding
- Degree in Health Information Management
