We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Paralegal to join our legal team at Mission Personal Injury Lawyers. The Paralegal will provide essential support to attorneys by performing a variety of tasks, including legal research, drafting documents, managing case files, and assisting with trial preparation. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of legal processes, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. This is a contract-to-hire position. The contract is 3-6 months with the potential to become a full-time employee.
Responsibilities
Legal Research:
• Conduct thorough legal research using online databases and legal resources to support case preparation and strategy.
• Summarize findings and provide detailed reports to attorneys for use in legal documents and arguments.
• Document Preparation:
• Draft, edit, and proofread legal documents, including pleadings, motions, contracts, and discovery requests.
• Prepare and file documents with state and federal courts, ensuring compliance with procedural rules and deadlines.
Case Management:
• Organize and maintain case files, both physical and electronic, ensuring all documents are filed correctly and timely.
• Track deadlines and manage calendars for attorneys, ensuring that all legal and client obligations are met.
Client Interaction:
• Communicate with clients to gather information, schedule appointments, and provide updates on case progress.
• Assist in preparing clients for meetings, depositions, and court appearances.
Discovery Support:
• Assist with the discovery process, including drafting and responding to requests, managing document productions, and reviewing discovery materials.
• Organize and summarize evidence and witness statements for trial preparation.
Trial Preparation:
• Prepare trial notebooks and exhibits, coordinate logistics for trial, and assist attorneys during trial proceedings.
• Attend trials, hearings, and depositions to provide support as needed.
Administrative Duties:
• Perform general administrative tasks such as billing, maintaining office supplies, and managing correspondence.
• Ensure compliance with legal ethics and confidentiality standards in all aspects of work.
Qualifications
• Education: Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies, Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience. Certification from a recognized paralegal program is preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a paralegal in a law firm or legal environment.
Skills:
• Strong understanding of legal terminology, principles, and practices.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish
• Excellent research and writing skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Proficient in legal research databases and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and team members.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in all matters.
