      This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Critical Hiring Need Personnel to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

      About the Position: This is a Park Ranger, GS-0025-04 Summer Hire position for the U.S. Army corps of Engineers Tulsa District. This is a temporary appointment not to exceed 120 Days but may be extended without further competition.

      Duties


      • Patrols an assigned area for detection of encroachment, unauthorized use, timber-cutting, vandalism, fire detection, theft, safety hazards, littering, etc.
      • Identifies non-compliance with policies and regulations, calls to users' attention such basic requirements as boundary lines, campground locations, and points out clearly identified uses of trespass and safety.
      • Provides information to visitors regarding recreation facilities and aids them in selecting areas suitable to their needs and desires
      • Carries out fire prevention activities by observing and reporting conditions; instructing visitors on hazards, regulations and restrictions; issues warnings and reports violations.
      • Participates as a team member in efforts to control fires on the Government-owned land.
      • Responsible for observing all safety rules, regulations and directives applicable to the work assignments.

      Requirements


      • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
      • Tour of duty will include weekend and holiday work.
      • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Driver's License.

      Qualifications

      In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.       General and/or Specialized Experience: Six months of general experience which includes administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work that provided a familiarity with natural or cultural history; fish or wildlife habitat characteristics; techniques of resource protection and use; recreational use of public lands and facilities; enforcement of laws, rules, or regulations; fire prevention techniques and fire suppression methods; or the practice of interpersonal relations skills in dealing with the general public. Experience in substantive and relevant secretarial, clerical, or trades and crafts work is also qualifying if related to the position to be filled. Experience of a routine nature, such as typing, filing, maintaining records, or other non-specialized tasks is not qualifying. AND, I have 6 months of specialized experience in technical, administrative or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement or other park related work.

      Education: Two years of education above the high school level with twelve semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.

      Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 60. Add the two percentages.
