      Job Description:

      Part time position as an Activities Assistant at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home (Department of Veterans Affairs). Scheduled days are:

      o Monday 12:30-8:00 p.m.
      o Wednesday 12:30-8:00 p.m.
      o Friday 12:30-7:00 p.m.
      o Every 5th Weekend


      New wage, effective July 1st: $19.139 (Breakdown: $16.139 base + $3.00 differential)

      JOB DUTIES: Activity Assistant for a caseload of Members. Tasks will include assist in conducting assessments, participating in care planning, assist in developing and implementing an activity calendar for assigned unit, driving a 10 passenger bus or van to take Members on outings, and assisting with facility activities.

      Requirements / Qualifications:

      Minimum Qualifications: Coursework/Training in recreation management, music, recreation therapy, occupational therapy, vocational rehabilitation or related field OR experience leading or conducting games, sports, or musical or other activities or assisting with providing therapy or related services.

      Preferred Qualification: Completion of NHCA Activity Director Training, or a similar course offered by another agency or state, or a college degree in the field of Recreation. Experience providing recreational programming and activities in a therapeutic setting preferred.

      Other: Valid driver's license.


      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of planning and conducting therapeutic activities; the fundamentals & rules of various games and related leisure activities for geriatric population. Ability to form effective therapeutic relationships with members and maintain member interest and participation in activities. Observe and document member behavior and participation.
