      Community Schools Custodian - Part Time

      Reporting to the Facility Supervisor, the Community Schools Custodian is responsible for the opening and closing of the Community School for permit holders, and will ensure that all patrons are following the rules of the facility. This position works a variety of evening and weekend shifts.

      Key Duties

      • Open school as instructed and follow opening/closing and alarm procedures as instructed. Check for damage, facility problems, etc. and record findings on opening/closing checklists forms; report any school security and building concerns to the Board of Education security staff.
      • Assist Department staff/permit holders in setting up facilities for their programs (set up tables, chairs, flip charts, TV’s; in gym raise/lower basketball nets and divider wall, etc.
      • Carry out cleaning duties as required - sweeping, scrubbing, unplugging toilets, replace toilet paper, mop floors, sweep gym floors, clean up spills, gather up garbage and take outside to garbage bin etc.
      • Take appropriate action in case of emergency - fire, medical, disturbances and inform the appropriate people if necessary, fill out accident/incident forms
      • Enforce school rules and regulations as well as any Recreation & Culture deems appropriate. Ensure the public is aware of these and act in the appropriate manner at all times (no food and drink in gym, no outer footwear in gym, start and stop program as stated on permit etc.) Lock doors to school that are off limits when able to prevent unauthorized access. Record any situations in the daily log and provide as much detail as possible in case further action is required by the Manager of Administration.
      • Assist the pubic/permit holder by the exchange of information (brochure, staff program list, etc., use of phone for local calls only etc.) and offers assistance where able / appropriate. Inform the public where they access within the building.
      • Work cooperatively and maintain ongoing and effective communication with participants, public, and staff. Ensure effective public relations, and problem solve as necessary.
      • Ensure all supplies in security locker and first aid box are full and inform Satellite Facilities Manager when supplies are low. Ensure the security office/storage space is kept clean and organized.
      • Ensure all equipment handed out to permit holders is returned in good condition.
      • Ensure the safety and well-being of all permit holders and their participants.
      • Abide by and maintain Town policies and act in a professional manner at all times.
      • Maintain ongoing effective communication with Satellite Facilities Manager.

      Qualifications/Skills

      • Completion of Grade 12 diploma or equivalent experience.
      • Current Standard First Aid with CPR C Certification + AED Certification.
      • Excellent customer service skills.
      • Good written and verbal communication skills.
      • Leadership skills.
      • Dedication and commitment to the position.
      • Ability to work interdependently.
      • Positive and responsible attitude.
      • Able to provide a satisfactory Criminal Reference check with Vulnerable Sector screening that is current (dated within the last six months), upon being hired.
      • Able to work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.

      What is Offered to Staff

      • Rate of Pay: $27.64 - $30.05 per hour
      • Hours of Work: This is a non-union position that works evening and weekend shifts throughout the year, as well as weekday shifts in July and August. The successful candidate must be available to work up to 24 hours per week.
