      Overview

      Part of the Outreach Services department, Justice Initiatives works to support incarcerated and formerly incarcerated patrons and their families and to raise public awareness of issues of racial, social, and economic justice.

      Justice Initiatives is seeking a part-time TeleStory Assistant to join our small team. The TeleStory Assistant will be involved in a wide variety of public library work including direct service to incarcerated and formerly incarcerated patrons, outreach, programming and research.

      Responsibilities

      • Facilitate library-based video calls between families to their incarcerated loved-ones
      • Assist with the publication of a quarterly jail and prison zine
      • Assist with virtual and in-person programming
      • Assist with community outreach
      • Assist with developing materials, guides and trainings to support formerly incarcerated patrons
      • Participate in relevant trainings and meetings
      • Other duties as assigned

      Qualifications

      • BA required
      • Experience working with diverse communities
      • Strong oral and written communication skills
      • Strong organization and planning skills
      • Ability to work with a team and independently on projects
      • Understanding of libraries and library services
      • Familiarity with internet, electronic databases, social media and basic computer applications
      • Bilingual preferred
      • Experience with incarceration a plus
      • Ability to work up to 19 hours per week, evenings as needed
      • Ability to travel to library locations across the borough

      This is a part time position with a pay rate of $23 - $25/hr.
