- This roles primary responsibility is to facilitate a seamless and efficient patient experience by ensuring accurate patient eligibility, obtaining prior authorizations, and maximizing patient benefits. This role will serve as the initial point of contact for patients, coordinating with various departments to ensure all necessary steps are taken to meet patient needs while adhering to healthcare organization policies and procedures.
- Utilize various databases and systems to verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility.
- Communicate with patients to obtain missing or updated insurance information.
- Review medical necessity requirements and insurance guidelines to determine the need for prior authorizations.
- Initiate and follow up on prior authorization requests with insurance companies, ensuring timely approvals.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and office staff to gather necessary clinical documentation to support prior authorization requests.
- Educate patients on their insurance coverage, including copayments, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses.
- Evaluate patient benefits and assist in identifying resources to minimize financial barriers to care.
- Coordinate with clinical staff and departments to ensure necessary preparations are made for scheduled patient visits.
- Accurately enter patient information, insurance details, and authorization status into electronic health records (EHR) and billing systems.
- Maintain detailed records of prior authorization requests, approvals, denials, and appeals for tracking and reporting purposes.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in healthcare administration, patient access, or insurance coordination.
- Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, insurance policies, and healthcare regulations.
- Prior experience in healthcare financial counselling and/or obtaining prior authorizations.
