- Communicates with outside medical offices for patient surgical care coordination
- Contacts patients prior to surgery to provide preoperative prep instructions and obtain basic medial history and health information.
- Assists patients through the pre registration process.
- Prepares patient charts and other communications.
- Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence of designated skills identified for the position.
- Performs administrative duties as assigned.
- Maintains flexibility with scheduling and job assignments to cover patient needs.
- Protecting the patient from injury caused by extraneous objects and chemical, electrical, mechanical, and thermal sources
- Demonstrating safe operation of equipment machinery and follows procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation
- Handling specimens according to facility policy and procedures
- Performing interventions to protect the patient from infection
- Assembling supplies and equipment;
- Assuming an active role in assisting patient with care needs;
- Proactively optimizes opportunities to enhance flow and efficiency of the center;
- Orienting patient to environment;
- Maintaining patient normothermia;
- Assisting with patient transfers;
- Assisting throughout the facility in environmental cleaning;
- Protecting the patient’s rights, dignity, and privacy
- Providing age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice.
- Complying with Universal Protocol and facility site validation and time-out policy.
- Provide hand-off report to other teammates that are accurate, concise and pertinent to the patient’s condition and response to care.
- Clean and prepare equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions for use.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Fosters a positive and professional ambulatory surgery center environment by interacting with all persons in a considerate, helpful and courteous manner and by participating as a team member. Must have an award-winning personality with an unrequited commitment to clinical excellence and outcomes.
- Participates in committees, work groups and meetings as deemed necessary.
- Successfully completes required competencies of the position.
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Certified Medical Assistant (MA)/Nursing Assistant (CNA)/Patient Care (PCT) preferred.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Ability to speak Spanish desired, but not required.
- Advanced computer literacy to include proficiency in the following skills:
- Send and Receive Company Email
- Access patient charts by electronic methods
- Create complex Word Processing Documents
- Create complex Spreadsheet Documents
- Excellent interpersonal relationship skills
- Ability to listen, comprehend and follow instructions.
- Previous work experience in an ambulatory care surgical setting or acute care hospital
- Previous registration, admissions, and healthcare scheduling helpful
- One year Medical Receptionist experience is preferred.
- Post High School general business or administrative training preferred
- Successful completion of BLS Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current BLS certification.
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Physically demanding, high-stress environment
- Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions
- Pushing and pulling heavy objects
- Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients and equipment
- Manual and finger dexterity
- Hand eye coordination
- Standing and walking for extensive periods of time
- Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs
- Corrected vision and hearing to within normal range
- Working irregular hours
- Attendance
