      POSTION SUMMARY: The Patrolman performs law enforcement duties within Comanche Nation Indian Country as defined in Title 18 United States Code Section 1152 to preserve the protection of life and property and the construction of lawful rights of citizens. Investigates, apprehends, arrests and detains under authority of Title 25 CFR Criminal Statutes, Tribal, State and Federal Statutes. Under administrative direction, plans, directs, supervises, and coordinates the activities and operations of an assigned service within the Comanche Nation Police Agency. Coordinates assigned activities with other divisions, departments and outside agencies: and provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to higher ranks as assigned

      DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      KNOWLEDGE OF:

      • Law enforcement principles, practices and techniques related to patrol, traffic enforcement, crime scene control and investigation, protection of life and property, pursuit, apprehension and transportation of suspects.
      • Rules of evidence regarding search and seizure and preservation of evidence.
      • Safety practices and equipment related to the work, including the safe and proper care of firearms, chemical agents and impact weapons.
      • Techniques for communication and solving the problems presented by a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, in person and over the telephone, often when relations may be confrontational or stressed.
      • Basic English grammar, composition, spelling, punctuation and report writing techniques.
      • Standard law enforcement practices and procedures, including the use of office equipment, record keeping, business mathematics, spreadsheet utilization and basic computer applications related to the work.

      REPORTS TO: The Patrolman will report to any Patrol Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, or above. They may also report to Detectives and/or Special Investigators from time to time when warranted. A Patrolman does not possess any supervisory responsibilities.

      PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Primary functions requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting, walk, stand or sit for prolonged periods of time, occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist, to lift , carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight, to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard, travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation, to operate and use specialized law enforcement tools and equipment including guns and handcuffs, and to verbally communicate to exchange information. Vision in the normal range with or without correction. Hearing in the normal audio range with or without correction.

      WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a standard office setting, reactive emergency, natural or fabricated disasters, and routine peacekeeping environments with travel to various locations to attend meetings or respond to major crime scenes, disasters or critical incidents. The employee is occasionally exposed natural or man-made hazards such as outside weather conditions (extreme cold or extreme heat), occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation and vibration, noise levels in the work environment is usually moderate, due to sirens, firearm training, etc. Incumbents may be required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends and may be required to travel outside of Comanche Nation boundaries to support law enforcement activities.

      QUALIFICATIONS:

      Educational/Training:

      Equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade supplemented by additional college level course work and specialized training in law enforcement, criminal justice, police science, public administration or related field.

      Experience:

      No experience necessary.

      Mandatory Requirements:

      • High School diploma or GED.
      • Must complete a basic police academy (State or Indian Police Academy).
      • Possess a Valid Oklahoma driver license with a clean driving history.
      • Must complete a CPR and First Aid certification.
      • Ability to pass SF-78 Medical and the MMPI/CPI Mental Health Evaluations.

      DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

      Must possess an Associates or Bachelors degree in Police Science or related career field.
