      We are looking for an individual who is up for for a new and exciting challenge, they must be passionate about continuous improvement, have the ability to handle a complex and varied workload and be able to lead a team to deliver an outstanding transactional Payroll service.

      The Payroll Manager is an integral part of the Employee Services Team and will act as the lead for the organisation on all payroll related matters. You will be responsible, accountable, confident and customer focused with a passion for delivering a high-level service to Arden & GEM and our customers.

      You will be able to work remotely, but you must be willing to travel to an Arden & GEM or customer base as and when required.Previous applicants need not apply.

      Main duties of the job

      The Payroll Team within Arden & GEM are a dynamic transactional service that ensure all payroll activity is completed within strict deadlines. We are seeking a motivated professional who holds our values to the core of everything they do and understands the importance of ensuring accuracy within a fast-paced environment.

      We want someone who is approachable, understanding and instils inspiration in people they work with. Payroll experience is paramount in this role and you will have an understanding of payroll systems, such as ESR and other key payroll tools; along with a confident ability to contribute the continued development of the service we provide. You will be instrumental as a key member of the Employee Services Team, supporting the wider HR Team and business.

      Job description

      Job responsibilities

      • Ensure the payroll service is operationally effective and efficient at all times. This includes regular monitoring of payroll errors to ensure they are not above agreed targets and taking corrective action as necessary.
      • Manage members of the payroll team in allocation of duties, effective day to day line management, which may be re-prioritised through the day, personal developments plans, performance management, motivation and coaching ensuring that the service is run smoothly and efficiently to provide a quality service to customers.
      • The role will also require co-operation with the internal and external Audit Department on any audits undertaken within the Payroll Team and reviewing and implementing recommendations made in respect of HR transactional work, in conjunction with the Deputy Head of Employee Services.
      • Dealing with and resolving highly sensitive payroll information for senior employees and customers, both internally and externally, seeking advice and guidance from the Payroll Lead or Head of Employee Services, where appropriate.
      • Update and maintain HR databases such as ESR, payroll issues logs, audit logs, pensions auto-enrolment reports, training, and any other database as required
      • Responsible for review of payroll reports in conjunction with SBS Payroll and Finance Leads within the CSU and external customers e.g. overpayment reports, Pension Reports. Action to be taken where required resolving any related queries.
      • Represent the payroll service and meet with key customer leads on a monthly basis to discuss their requirements and provide regular updates.
      • Manage the timely and accurate provision of transactional payroll services for the CSU and customers.
      • Manage Electronic Staff Record (ESR) system, ensuring that the information held in respect of payroll transactions and employee data is current and correct and this is fully utilised for the benefit of the CSU and customers.
