      We are looking for candidates within the salary range of £42,000-£51,000

      We have 1 permanent opportunity and 2 fixed-term contracts available until end December 2023 (internally known as Secondments).

      About the role

      As a PPA Specialist, you'll be responsible for the provision of practical advice and guidance to Partners and managers at all levels to ensure Partnership policy is followed and that managers are making legally compliant sound judgements considering the risks associated with their decision making.

      The John Lewis Partnership People Policy and Advice Department offer support and guidance to all Partners with relation to our Policies and Disciplinary & Grievance.

      With this in mind we are currently looking for Personnel Policy and Advice Specialists to work within this Department applying employment law and our own internal policies to guide and coach Partners and Line Managers who seek our support.

      The team cover the following operational window, on a rota basis:-

      Earliest start: 08:00

      Latest finish: 18:00

      Saturday working on a rotational basis - 09:00 - 17:00

      Some night shifts on a rotational basis Monday and Thursdays 9pm to Midnight

      The team operates an extended evening service on a Monday and Thursday evening 21:00 - midnight. As this extended-hours service offering develops, some flexibility to include evening work may be required.

      This role is mainly telephone and email-based in a fast-paced and demanding environment.

      At the core of the role is the provision of practical advice and guidance to Partners and managers at all levels to ensure Partnership policy is followed and that manager's actions are also legally compliant. Case Management will be a particular focus ensuring a timely and fair resolution through the provision of judgement-led advice and building strong relationships quickly.

      A high degree of integrity and influence is needed to question, coach, and advise over the phone. The ability to listen well, quickly build rapport and instill trust in the caller is vital. Specialists need to be able to offer options, pointing out the risks involved where required, and supply the caller with the relevant information enabling them to make well-informed judgement based decisions.

      The job holder will need to be able to capture details of the case on the logging system at the same time as discussing the case so would suit an individual who is able to multi-task, think on their feet, and record information accurately.

      Established Policy Specialists also support business leaders and change management programmes to ensure Partnership Policies are applied in conjunction with employment law.

      A good level of literacy is essential. The job requires keeping up to date on internal policies and changing employment legislation and you should be willing to work for employment law qualifications within this role.

      You will demonstrate an ability to maintain an in-depth knowledge of your own area as well basic knowledge of other disciplines.

      Essential skills you’ll need

      CIPD qualified or studying towards a CIPD or Diploma in HR Management (This is essential and we cannot accept applications without this).

      Experience working in an HR environment and change programmes

      GCSE or equivalent (incl. English and maths)

      Proven team working skills

      Proven capacity to influence others

      Desirable skills you could bring

      TUPE expertise

      Experience in using Workday and GCM
