- Provides Plant Manager and Valero and Darling Ingredients management with timely, comprehensive analysis of financial results and analysis of variations from financial plans.
- Supports Valero Headquarters Corporate and Refinery Accounting during monthly financial close including developing accruals and other required manual entries.
- Reviews and analyzes month-end data to ensure accuracy and timeliness of expenses. Questions abnormalities, researches cause of significant variances from budget/forecast, and provide operation expense reconciliations.
- Promotes financial integrity in operating financial stewardship, strategic planning, and monthly financial close.
- Represents DGD interests in all interactions, business arrangements and financial dealings between DGD and Valero, the Operator.
- Participates in quarterly DGD Board meetings by presenting financial performance, plans, and forecasts to the Board of Managers
- Forecasts full P&L (revenue, cost of goods sold, operating expenses) and capital spending on a monthly basis.
- Ensures appropriate internal controls processes are in place to ensure compliance with SOX requirements.
- Monitors SOX periodic testing and follows through with process owners to ensure that identified control gaps are remediated in a timely manner.
- Monitors changes in organization, systems, business processes to identify control risks and works with process owners to eliminate or mitigate the risk.
- Coordinates all financial related audits.
- Oversees responsibilities of Warehouse group.
- Coordinates Strategic Plan Process as required and establishes timeline for completion and review with leadership team.
- Coordinates and prepares GAP analysis, expense budget, and leads review with management.
- Leads and supports plant operation expense stewardship effort.
- Supports turnaround and capital planning through review for appropriate accounting treatment or classification.
- Acts as an independent consultant reviewing overall turnaround cost on a frequent basis to ensure that actual and forecast information communicated to management reflect reality and that costs are properly categorized.
- Bachelor’s or higher level degree - Accounting required.
- 10+ years of experience in the following area(s):
- refinery accounting or related industry, including 3 years of experience in a lead, supervisor or managerial role required.
- Master’s or higher level degree preferred.
- SAP system experience preferred.
- CPA preferred.
- Ability to be geographically mobile preferred.
!*!The Plant Controller is accountable to the DGD Board of Managers which includes executive management from Valero and Darling Ingredients with respect to financial controls and stewardship. As the senior financial position at the plant, the Controller serves as the primary point of contact for all financial inquiries from internal and headquarters personnel at all levels from both Valero and Darling Ingredients. In addition, the Plant Controller has direct contact with external vendors, community representatives, and government representatives. The Plant Controller provides oversight, consulting and stewardship of all business activities that can affect the financial results of the plant and ensures that appropriate controls are in place to safeguard the company’s assets and mitigate risks.
This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.
