Job Title: Cloud Platform Engineering, Database Migration Engineer (Contractor)

Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled Database Migration Engineer to support the migration of on-premises Oracle and SQL Server databases to AWS Cloud database platforms. The ideal candidate will also provide occasional support for our GCP infrastructure platform. This role requires a strong understanding of various IT subject areas, infrastructure technologies, and application development methodologies.

Specialized Knowledge & Skills:

• IT Subject Areas:
• Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of multiple
  IT domains, including development, configuration, deployment, testing, monitoring, and more.
• Infrastructure Technologies:
• Strong knowledge of infrastructure technologies and application development methodologies.
• Proficient in System Administration tasks such as configurations, installations, patch management, and server maintenance.
• Strong knowledge in Network Management, including firewalls, proxies, IP management, routing, and DNS.

Tools & Technologies:

• Proficient with GitLab.
• Solid understanding of Bootstrap framework.
• Cloud Services:
• Demonstrated experience with AWS services, including but not limited to KMS, Glue Catalog, Athena, IAM, S3, Logging (EMR, EC2, RDS).
• Experience with GCP infrastructure platform.
• Operating Systems:
• Proficient in Linux operating systems.
• Data Management:
• Knowledge and understanding of ETL processes and Informatica.
• Strong experience in debugging, identifying root causes, and solving application issues.

Database Administration:

• 5+ years of experience in a DBA role, configuring and supporting multiple database platforms (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MS SQL Server, Oracle).
• Experience in provisioning, upgrading, and tuning database services.
• Familiarity with provisioning new database services, especially for production deployments.
• Ability to provide guidance for efficient application design using database managed services.
• Involvement in tuning exercises affecting application performance.
• Review DD prior to deployment if requested by the application team, without managing DDL on behalf of the application team.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in a DBA role, configuring and supporting a wide range of database platforms (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MS SQL Server).
• 5+ years of experience with cloud services (AWS, GCP).
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• GCP focused
• Backfill for contingent that left
• Migrate to on-premises to AWS
• Applications stay on-prem while migrate to cloud
• Senior in experience needed
• Oracle and SQL databases migrating
• Work hybrid on site for 10 days per month in Madison, but open to fully remote
• Database background, familiar with GCP space
• Team: 5-6 FTE and a few 50% flex-in as needed
• Good communicator and collaborator
• Interview: 1 maybe 2 rounds of interviews, interviews 1st week of Feb.

The salary range is $120-130k.
